The PAY technology team supports PNC’s client-servicing M&A, Escrow, and Paying Agent platform, powering complex, high-value financial transactions where reliability, scalability, and operational excellence are essential to client success. The team develops and maintains the applications and services used to onboard transactions, process payments, deliver client reporting, and support the operational servicing of M&A and escrow-related events.

Job DescriptionCore Responsibilities- Lead platform-level architecture and solution design efforts for business-critical payment processing applications, ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability.
- Provide technical leadership across multiple PAY applications and services, guiding engineering teams through complex technical challenges and strategic initiatives.
- Drive modernization efforts, platform enhancements, and technology roadmap execution across the PAY ecosystem.
- Deliver hands-on development and technical leadership using Java to design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade backend services.
- Build and enhance microservices and application components using Spring Boot to support high-volume transaction processing and business workflows.
- Develop and support user-facing solutions using Angular to deliver intuitive and efficient application experiences.
- Design, develop, and maintain REST APIs that enable secure and scalable integration between enterprise systems and services.
- Apply SQL and database design expertise to optimize data models, improve application performance, and support transactional processing requirements.
- Define and implement enterprise application architecture patterns that align technology solutions with business objectives and long-term platform strategy.
- Leverage integration patterns to enable seamless connectivity between internal applications, external systems, and business services.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues, perform root cause analysis, and improve platform resiliency in a fast-paced, high-availability environment.
- Participate in on-call support and provide leadership during critical production incidents affecting revenue-generating business processes.
- Mentor and coach engineers on software design, coding standards, troubleshooting techniques, and engineering best practices.
- Partner closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Architects, Operations teams, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Support release planning, technical risk assessment, dependency management, and delivery execution for complex initiatives.
- Evaluate, implement, and promote AI-enabled engineering practices that improve software quality, productivity, and development velocity.
- Drive the adoption of Generative AI and AI-assisted software development capabilities throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, solution design, development, test automation, documentation, code reviews, release readiness assessments, troubleshooting, and production support.
- Establish governance, standards, and guardrails for responsible AI adoption while ensuring compliance, security, quality, and operational excellence.
- Assess emerging AI technologies and identify opportunities to deliver measurable engineering and business value across development teams.
Preferred Skills & Experience- Proven experience serving as a Technical Lead, Solution Lead, or operating in an architecture-focused leadership capacity across multiple applications or teams.
- Hands-on experience developing enterprise applications using Java and modern backend engineering practices.
- Strong experience building scalable microservices and enterprise applications using Spring Boot.
- Hands-on experience developing modern web applications using Angular.
- Experience designing, developing, and supporting REST APIs for enterprise integrations and business-critical applications.
- Strong knowledge of SQL and database design, including data modeling, query optimization, and transactional systems.
- Expertise in enterprise application architecture, including system design, scalability, reliability, and maintainability principles.
- Experience implementing integration patterns to support distributed systems and enterprise technology ecosystems.
- Demonstrated success troubleshooting complex production issues and providing production support in highly available, mission-critical environments.
- Experience leading technical design discussions, mentoring engineers, and establishing development best practices.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with business stakeholders, product teams, architecture groups, and operations organizations.
- Demonstrated experience leveraging Generative AI and AI-assisted development tools to enhance software engineering outcomes.
- Hands-on experience using GitHub Copilot or similar AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality, testing, and delivery effectiveness.
- Experience applying AI capabilities across the SDLC, including requirements analysis, software development, testing, code reviews, documentation, modernization, and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of responsible AI adoption, engineering governance, and best practices for AI-enabled software development.
- Experience with DevOps practices to improve software delivery, operational efficiency, and engineering automation.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines to accelerate deployments and improve release quality.
- Strong proficiency with GitHub for source control, collaboration, and modern development workflows.
- Experience deploying and supporting applications within AWS and/or Azure cloud environments.
- Experience utilizing observability and monitoring platforms to enhance application performance, reliability, and operational visibility.
- Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks and technology strategy planning.
- Experience leading or contributing to application modernization, scalability improvements, and performance optimization initiatives.
- Understanding of Generative AI, GitHub Copilot, AI-assisted SDLC practices, AI governance, and responsible AI implementation.
- Experience building AI-powered solutions, AI Agents, or process frameworks that enable AI adoption across engineering teams.
- Demonstrated success implementing AI-driven process improvements that resulted in measurable gains in engineering efficiency, delivery speed, quality, or developer productivity.
