WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

The Technology Insights Group (TIG) at Bain & Company is a rapidly growing global team of world-class consultants and technologists. We work with leading Private Equity (PE) investors and their tech-enabled portfolio companies to act as technical advisors in investment processes. We conduct product and technology due diligence engagements and value creation assignments, leveraging our extensive expertise in software and understanding of commercial environments specific to tech-enabled businesses. We deliver our projects by combining a team of consultants with former CPOs and CTOs of leading global technology and software companies with decades of both advising and operating experience. The team has completed 400+ product and technology diligences and value creation engagements worldwide.

Over the past 5 years, we supported our clients on some of the most visible technology investments in the US and Europe, including several of the global Top 2024 & 2025 software deals.

WHERE YOU'LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM

You'll be joining TIG as a Technologist. It's an exciting opportunity to help scale a critical capability at Bain. You will work closely with the global Tech leadership as well as regional Private Equity (PE) and General Consulting teams as the experienced technical voice on diligence and value creation engagements. You'll have the opportunity to critically analyse and evaluate some of the most interesting tech and tech enabled companies around gaining exposure to a broad range of technologies, products, industries and innovation in the very fast-moving adoption of AI.

This role is based in the United States, with a preference for candidates located in the Northeast, particularly the Boston or New York areas.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Act as the senior Technologist and a full member of the case leadership team across technology and integrated due diligence (TDD/IDD), post-acquisition (Day 1 and the first 100 days), and value creation plan (VCP) engagements, working hand-in-hand with the Senior Manager & Operating Partner who own and drive the project deliverables and story line.
• Own the "technical answer" and be heavily engaged in shaping the executive summary key assumptions and their assessments, ensuring an answer-led approach grounded in the investment thesis (for PE) or an operator view (for industry/corporate clients).
• Validate overall product capability against the investment thesis; assess the extent and impact of technical debt and architecture choices; surface material risks (cyber security in particular); evaluate R&D's ability to execute; and translate all of this into a clear view of "what it takes" and "how much it will cost."
• Be the senior technical voice in client calls, management deep dives, and target conversations - remaining highly present to both client and target - and deep-dive critical technical topics even when outside your direct experience, drawing on the wider technologist group and expert network to maintain fidelity.
• Be a critical factor in winning work - shaping proposals and approach, and convincing even the most sceptical clients in a pitch through genuine technical credibility and "street creds".
• Demonstrate fluent understanding of software architectures, technology stack, cloud and mobile computing, technical debt, functional and non-functional roadmaps, hosting, cyber-security, database technologies, data & analytics, including AI/ML technologies, R&D organization, and AI enabled software development lifecycle (SDLC), including testing, quality assurance, and CI / CD processes
• Demonstrate solid understanding of some major software business application areas, which may include e-Commerce, ERP, CRM, Data warehousing, Business Intelligence and have familiarity with new emerging applications
• Apply the investment thesis to the tech due diligence process and make relevant assessments and recommendations that translate into insights using appropriate methodologies
• Help develop TIG intellectual property and identify areas of new opportunity for technology due diligence and value creation for Bain and its PE clients
• Communicate with and educate both senior and junior colleagues to further embed technology know how across the firm and within our clients
• Coach, and mentor junior TIG team members

ABOUT YOU

This role requires a minimum of three days per week working together in person, either at a client location or at your Bain home office.

• Must have substantial hands-on experience in commercial software engineering and architecture
• Must demonstrate a practical understanding of the AI technology landscape, including large language models, AI-assisted development tools, orchestration frameworks, and emerging standards such as Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers
  • Direct and recent experience applying AI across the software development lifecycle is preferred, including the use of generative AI and, ideally, agentic AI to improve product development, engineering productivity, platform capabilities, or business processes.
  • A strong data science, machine learning, or AI engineering background with clear applicability to these areas may also be considered

• 10+ years industry experience, including leadership roles for at least 3 years
• Track record of leading and collaborating on strategic initiatives.
• Strong team and business communication skills - can walk through approach with technical clients or explain complex concepts to non-technical people
• Ability to collaborate with people at all levels and with multi-office/region teams
• Must thrive in a fast-paced environment and be able to work independently
• Travel required
• Consulting experience and/or hands-on experience with technical due diligence processes an advantage

U.S. Compensation Information

Compensation for this role includes base salary, annual discretionary performance bonus, 401(k) plan with an annual employer contribution based on years of service and Bain's best in class benefits package (details listed below).

Some local governments in the United States require a good-faith, reasonable salary range to be included in job postings for open roles. The estimated annualized compensation for this role is as follows:

• In Boston, Massachusetts and New York, New York, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $240,000 - $290,000; placement within this range will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level.
• Annual discretionary performance bonus.
• This role may also be eligible for other elements of discretionary compensation.
• 4.5% 401(k) company contribution, which increases after 3 years of service and is 100% vested upon start date.
