Sikorsky Aircraft's Development Flight Center (DFC) Instrumentation group is seeking a motivated, high energy, experienced individual to be a Lead Technician in the instrumentation of flight and ground test assets. Lead Technicians work independently to lead the preparation, installation, check-out and operation of complex custom instrumentation systems for Flight Test Programs, which provide the measurements required by the engineering department and/or contractual obligations. Candidate will lead the planning, preparation, installation, check-out and operation of custom instrumentation systems. Other responsibilities include: installation of strain gauges, thermocouples, accelerometers and a variety of other electronic components/sensors, interpret wiring drawings, and troubleshoot equipment, measurement anomalies and construction of harnesses and electrical devices. Promote compliance with all company policies and procedures. This assignment will include on-the-job training on ground and flight instrumentation efforts and instrumentation system maintenance. Candidate will also support status and technical meetings as required. Lead Technicians demonstrate leadership, have superior communications skills, experience in building schedules and providing estimates for instrumentation statement of work.

Requires up to 50% travel.

Basic Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in the field of flight test instrumentation and/or instrumentation electronics engineering with knowledge of computer systems.
  • Demonstrated ability leading teams in the planning, layout and installation of electronic components and sensors.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate and manage execution of Instrumentation work instructions, processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience reading wiring diagrams and interpreting schematics.
  • Knowledge and experience with harness builds, connector pin-outs, crimping and cable installation.
  • Knowledge and experience with installing and replacing strain gauges, accelerometers, and thermocouples.
  • Experienced with electronic tools such as multi-meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.
  • Solder/de-solder experience required.
  • Regular adherence and demonstrate use of Electrostatic Discharge safety methods and protocols.
  • Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting instrumentation hardware components and sensors.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate and manage instrumentation work instructions, processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and drive departmental change initiatives to completion.
  • Superior communications skills.
  • Must work well in a team environment.


Desired Skills

In addition, the following are preferred attributes for the successful candidate:
  • CAD software experience is desired.
  • Experience in flight operations and FOD controlled environments.
  • Familiar with rotary wing instrumentation is desired.
  • Solder certification to IPC-J-STD-001 is a plus.


Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $72400.00 - $134400.00

The salary range for this position is as listed on the requisition. Please note that the salary information listed is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market(work location) and business considerations when extending an offer.

  • Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.
  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
