Job Description

You write the documents a mission system runs on: system documentation, operations guides, user guides, validation records and the monthly reports, to the customer's document standards and Section 508. Full time, W-2, based in Fairfax, Virginia with some telework, starting October 2026.
What you will do
  • Write and maintain system documentation, operations and maintenance guides, runbooks, user guides, training material and release notes for the legacy and cloud systems.
  • Produce recurring deliverables to the HHS Guide to Document Preparation and the program's document standards; manage document control and version history.
  • Support validation and compliance documentation (Part 11, FISMA evidence, decommissioning records) with the specialists who own them.
  • Edit the team's work for accuracy, plain language and Section 508 conformance before it goes to the customer.
What you need
  • 4 or more years of technical writing for enterprise IT systems, including user and operations documentation.
  • Document control practice and experience producing to a customer style guide.
  • Section 508 accessible documents (Word, PDF, SharePoint).
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain an HHS Tier 2 public trust determination.

Terms, and how to apply

  • Hybrid: based at SPN's office in Fairfax, Virginia, with some telework; occasional days at the customer's Atlanta, Georgia campus when the work requires it
  • Core hours 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Eastern, Monday to Friday, with flexible start between 6:00 and 9:00 a.m. Eastern; federal holidays off
  • You must be a U.S. citizen and obtain and keep an HHS Tier 2 (moderate risk) public trust determination; no security clearance is required
  • You complete HHS security, privacy and records management training before access, and cGMP training shortly after you start
  • Work is done on customer-furnished or SPN-furnished equipment under HHS security rules
