Full Job Description
Position

As team lead for the Application Foundations group, you will play a key role in the design and long-term reliability of the underlying mechanics of our systems. You will lead a talented team dedicated to building the core software platform and components used directly by our other internal development teams.

You will contribute your technical expertise by actively participating in the architecture vision and deliverables, while ensuring strategic alignment with the needs of internal client teams (a liaison / technical Product Owner role). You will be responsible for your team's performance, motivation, and development, as well as the continuous improvement of our engineering processes.

This role is part of a broader team restructuring effort: you will be responsible for defining the roadmap and putting in place the processes needed to mature the function.

This hybrid role will keep you connected to the technical realities on the ground (architecture, performance, scalability) while developing your people-management and coaching skills.
Key responsibilities
Technical contribution & platform architecture
  • Design, build, test, and deploy application foundation modules (internal frameworks, core services, user and system authentication mechanisms, monitoring and observability tools).
  • Ensure the robustness, scalability, and performance of critical subsystems.
  • Ensure development best practices (testing, continuous integration, peer reviews) are rigorously applied.
  • Stay current on platform technologies and propose innovative solutions to improve the efficiency of client development teams.
Leadership & team supervision
  • Guide, motivate, and support team members day to day within a collaborative, positive environment.
  • Set individual and collective goals aligned with the company's vision.
  • Evaluate performance, identify training needs, and foster the team's professional development.
  • Act as the technical point of contact for other internal teams to understand their needs and facilitate adoption of foundation components.
  • Foster transparent communication, architecture documentation, and effective knowledge sharing.
  • Participate in recruiting and onboarding new talent.
Project management
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define the team's goals and priorities.
  • Estimate workloads and plan activities in collaboration with the product owner.
  • Track project progress, identify risks, and ensure delivery on time and on budget, in line with established standards and processes.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree / college diploma (AEC) in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of software development experience, including at least 5 years in a technical leadership or influence role (Tech Lead, Senior Lead Developer).
  • Infrastructure / core-platform mindset: Solid understanding of how applications work under the hood.
  • Bilingualism: Proficiency in French (the primary working language) and English, both spoken and written.
  • Financial industry experience: An asset.
Architecture, foundations & security
  • Authentication & Authorization: Strong command of secure authentication flows for users and systems (OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, identity management).
  • Observability & Monitoring: Knowledge of logging mechanisms, telemetry, metrics, and application health monitoring.
  • Performance & Scalability: Demonstrated ability to design high-availability architectures, manage scaling, and diagnose bottlenecks.
  • Traffic management: Command of proxy / reverse-proxy concepts (e.g., HAProxy) and load balancing.
Software development & stack
  • Languages & Frameworks: Excellent command of C# / .NET, with good knowledge of modern web frameworks such as Angular.
  • Systems & Patterns: Solid understanding of multithreading, asynchronous processing, and RESTful APIs.
  • Quality & DevOps: Advanced CI/CD practices (GitHub, automated pipelines) and automated testing.
Data & cloud
  • Databases & ORM: Good command of SQL (PostgreSQL, Sybase) and ORMs (Entity Framework, Dapper, NHibernate), with the ability to optimize queries.
  • Cloud infrastructure: Familiarity with designing and deploying distributed applications on AWS services.
Professional skills & leadership
  • Technical and people leadership: Ability to inspire, coach, and translate complex concepts into plain language.
  • Internal client orientation: Broad understanding of the needs of the development teams using the platform.
  • Critical thinking & problem solving: Methodical approach to performance and architecture challenges.
