Full Job Description
Moore & Van Allen PLLC, a leading southeastern law firm with a national practice, is seeking a Staff Attorney to join its Tax team in Charlotte. Our practice represents Fortune 500 companies, professional sport organizations and other taxpayers in expansion and/or relocation efforts, negotiating and claiming economic development incentive benefits, supporting state and local tax compliance, audit, settlement, protest and/or appeal with state tax agencies, and state and local taxation of corporations, partnerships, and limited liability companies.

This role offers the chance to contribute on high-stakes matters under demanding timelines, delivering practical, business-focused tax solutions. You'll be part of multi-disciplinary workstreams that support transactions, tax planning, controversy defense, and incentive strategies, helping clients navigate complex regimes with precision and responsiveness.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Negotiate state and local incentive packages with states, counties and municipalities for expanding or relocating businesses.
  • Negotiate, draft and review state, local and utility partner contracts related to incentive offers.
  • Assist clients with ongoing state and local tax incentive compliance to including claiming benefits and supporting required reporting.
  • Work with commercial real estate team to oversee project related land transactions and participate in site evaluation for relocating businesses.
  • Participate in tax-exempt bond offerings and oversee requisition process.
  • Prepare property tax returns.
  • Participate in audit review and defense preparing responses and reviewing documents.
  • Research federal, state and local tax issues.
  • Discusses tax issues and planning opportunities with other team members.
