Job Summary

Key Deliverables and Responsibilities

The Senior Tableau Engineer designs, develops, and maintains high-quality business intelligence solutions that enable data-driven decisions across Cambridge. This hands-on role partners with analytics, data engineering, and business stakeholders to turn trusted data into intuitive, performant, and actionable dashboards and reports. The position focuses on the presentation, usability, and consumption layer of the data platform, helping ensure insights are accessible, reliable, secure, and aligned with business needs.

What You'll Do:
  • Dashboard Development: Design, develop, and maintain Tableau dashboards, workbooks, and visual analytics solutions for operational, tactical, and strategic decision-making.
  • Business Partnership: Gather requirements, clarify KPIs and metrics, and translate business questions into effective visual solutions.
  • Trusted Data: Partner with data engineers and data architects to build BI solutions on well-modeled, performant, analytics-ready data sources.
  • Metric Consistency: Develop and maintain semantic layers, calculated fields, parameters, filters, and certified data sources that promote reuse and consistent definitions.
  • Performance Optimization: Improve dashboard speed and scalability through efficient data modeling, query design, extract strategies, caching, and live-connection best practices.
  • Visualization and UX: Apply layout, accessibility, storytelling, and user-experience standards to create intuitive, consistent, and visually compelling analytics.
  • Platform Support: Support Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud publishing, permissions, content organization, user support, enhancements, and production troubleshooting.
  • Governance and Security: Implement data governance, access controls, row-level security, lineage, and data-quality practices across BI solutions.
  • Documentation: Document dashboards, data sources, business logic, calculations, and usage guidance for end users.
  • Collaboration: Work across analytics, product, business, and technology teams to influence delivery standards and reporting operating models.

What We Are Looking For
  • 5+ years of experience in business intelligence or data visualization development, including at least three years of hands-on Tableau experience in an enterprise environment.
  • Advanced proficiency with Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud, and Tableau Prep.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with Snowflake or a similar cloud data platform.
  • Experience with calculated fields, level of detail expressions, table calculations, parameter-driven dashboards, and dynamic navigation.
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing, dimensional modeling, medallion architecture, semantic layers, and analytics-ready data structures.
  • Experience integrating Tableau with enterprise platforms, including Snowflake, Azure, and APIs.
  • Ability to validate and reconcile data with source systems and partner with data engineering teams on Gold-layer readiness, KPI definitions, and metric standardization.
  • Ability to translate complex datasets into clear, actionable insights and executive-level stories.
  • Strong attention to detail, data quality, visual design, and customer service.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, collaborate effectively, and troubleshoot production issues quickly.
