Job SummaryThe Systems Engineer Reports to the Director of Technology and plays a critical role in helping the agency support and maintain our existing infrastructure, problem solve IT challenges and move forward with the automation of processes and achieving efficiencies. A successful candidate must be able to perform server deployments, maintain colocation server hardware, support our staff to solve technical issues and manage high-level IT related projects seeing them through to completion.
Responsibilities Server Responsibilities (40%)
- Perform server administration tasks, including user/group administration, security permission, group policies, and print services.
- Maintain hyper-converged Windows virtual machines, including backups, patching, update and monitor performance in Scale and Azure environments.
- Maintain other critical infrastructure services, including Domain Controller, DNS, file server, and backups.
- Maintain software and hardware licenses.
- Manage and maintain Azure services - Intune, Conditional Access Policies, Exchange Online, and Endpoint Manager.
- Perform day-to-day administration of Windows Servers, virtualization, and storage systems to ensure optimal performance and availability.
- Identify and troubleshoot complex hardware and software issues, delivering efficient solutions.
- Manage Active Directory infrastructure enhancing user management and security protocols.
- Monitor and maintain system security and antivirus software, safeguarding against potential threats.
- Execute routine backups and disaster recovery operations to protect critical data.
- Support off-site datacenter, ensuring smooth functionality.
- Conduct routine hardware and software audits to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines. Configure and administer system monitoring, alerting, and logging systems.
- Regularly monitor system performance metrics to ensure optimal operation and proactively plan for future capacity needs based on trends in system usage and organizational growth.
- Create and maintain system documentation for domain technologies including installation, configuration, and appropriate troubleshooting steps.
- Maintains good documentation of all servers, systems, processes, and solutions
Network & Security Responsibilities (40%)
- Implement security best practices to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of agency data.
- Conduct regular security audits and address findings to safeguard against cyber threats and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Develop and implement project plans, risk assessment and contingency plans.
- Use scripting languages to automate and integrate systems, applications, and routine tasks.
Engineering Support (20%)
- Collaborate with Director of Technology on high-level projects.
- Provide support to Director and Admin Staff
- Assist with IT strategy recommendations as prescribed by Director.
- Assist with other System Administrator(s), Help Desk Technicians, and Director of Technology in projects, tickets, and solutions.
- Provide after-hours and on-call support as part of a rotation.
- Provide support to database projects and database needs of DBA.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications- BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related degree. A combination of education, training and work experience will be considered.
- 3-5 years of working systems administration in a Windows environment. Including experience in Windows Server (2016/2022)/ desktop OS (Windows 10/11).
- Experience administering Hyper-converged infrastructures and working with Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, Microsoft Endpoint Manager and Group Policies, Office 365, SQL Server, PowerShell, RDS (Remote Desktop Services).
- Experience working with automation tools and scripting language such as PowerShell.
- Good understanding of hosting environments, using server software such as IIS and Apache and Network Policy Server (RADIUS).
- Must be flexible, prioritize workload, able to manage multiple tasks, and have strong attention to detail.
- Ability to be exceptionally self-reliant and self-directed; Possess the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze problems, determine causes and initiate corrective action in a professional demeanor.
- Requires the ability to individually lift, move and install server and network equipment up to 30 lbs.
- Must have reliable, independent transportation for frequent transportation to Neighborhood House sites. This is a hybrid role with 2-3 days required onsite at any of our Neighborhood House locations. Locations will vary depending on needs.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include some evenings and weekends.

Desired Qualifications- Microsoft certification or equivalent certification in relevant programs desired.
- Experience with Atlassian software (Jira and Confluence experience a plus).
- Experience with Veeam Backup and Replication and QNAP NAS a plus.
- Experience in Azure MFA with Conditional Access policies.
- Experience using Intune MDM
Required Credentials- Must pass Neighborhood House's Background Check Requirements
- Position requires Washington State bi-annual criminal background re-check.
- Current Health Exam, Tuberculosis Screening, and record of Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccination or immunity (must be obtained prior to employment).
- Department of Early Learning Portable Background Check.
Post-Hire on-the-job Training Requirements- Current First Aid Certification (within 30 days of hire, maintain current certificate during employment)
