Description

NexGen Data Systems is seeking a Systems Engineer to serve as a key technical resource responsible for the effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and lifecycle maintenance of enterprise systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure, with an emphasis on cloud computing technologies.

The Systems Engineer provides hands-on technical delivery, expert guidance, and operational support across infrastructure planning, implementation, and ongoing enterprise operations.

The scope of this role encompasses technical research and development to enable continuous innovation within existing hybrid and multi-cloud environments. The Systems Engineer ensures that on-premises and cloud hardware, operating systems, software platforms, and related operational procedures strictly adhere to organizational values, security baselines, and regulatory compliance mandates. Key responsibilities include authoring technical specifications, project plans, system configurations, and test validation results, while effectively communicating complex architectural designs, risks, and project milestones to project teams and executive stakeholders.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on data restore and disaster recovery (DR) capabilities across both on-premises and cloud environments, delivering recommendations for operational efficiency and process improvements.
  • Coordinate, execute, validate, and document Disaster Recovery (DR) failover operations within enterprise cloud environments.
  • Ensure high availability, resiliency, and optimal performance benchmarks for critical enterprise applications and workloads hosted in cloud environments.
  • Develop, integrate, configure, and oversee enterprise storage arrays, Fibre Channel switches, and associated storage fabric components.
  • Maintain, optimize, and administer enterprise backup and recovery solutions across hybrid infrastructures to ensure mission continuity.
  • Research, architect, and implement scalable file-sharing and Network Attached Storage (NAS) technologies to satisfy mission requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex storage degradations, hybrid connectivity issues, and system anomalies across on-premises and cloud platforms.
  • Perform routine systems health checks, capacity forecasting, and preventative maintenance across storage and cloud compute resources.
  • Conduct comprehensive storage analysis, capacity modeling, and performance tuning for tiered storage components.
  • Author, review, and maintain operational policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and architectural documentation supporting the operational storage and cloud environments.
  • Prepare technical reports on storage administration best practices, emerging cloud technologies, and modernization strategies to recommend optimization enhancements.

  • Active Department of Defense Secret security clearance required (IT-I / Critical-Sensitive determination / Tier 5 SSBI investigation required).
  • DoD Approved 8570 / 8140 baseline certification required: IAT Level II (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, CND, or SSCP).
  • Required Computing Environment (CE) certification (at least one of the following):
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  • NetApp Certified Hybrid Cloud Administrator
  • NetApp Certified Hybrid Cloud Architect
  • NetApp Certified Hybrid Cloud Implementation Engineer

  • Cohesity Certified Protection Professional - NetBackup
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive professional experience in the systems engineering field, including evaluating, constructing, and integrating enterprise-level storage and backup platforms.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience architecting and managing hybrid storage infrastructure across public cloud platforms (AWS and/or Microsoft Azure).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of hands-on experience with enterprise Storage Area Network (SAN) management, including Fibre Channel zoning, iSCSI, FCoE unified fabric, HBAs/CNAs, storage controllers, LUN allocation, and RAID arrays.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of hands-on experience managing hierarchical storage and enterprise backup/restore toolsets, such as AWS Backup, Microsoft Azure Recovery Services/Site Recovery, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Backup & DR, and Cohesity/NetBackup solutions.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of hands-on experience supporting Department of Defense / military IT systems and secure computing environments.
  • Proven track record in orchestrating cloud failovers, Disaster Recovery testing, and business continuity operations.
  • Ability to work on-site or support operations at one of the designated primary personnel facilities (Columbus, OH; Dayton, OH; Ogden, UT; Richmond, VA; or Tracy, CA).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and technical reporting.
