The Opportunity

Position: System Design Engineer

Employment Type: Permanent

Employment Level: Intermediate

Location: 800 Kipling Avenue, Toronto, ON

Department: Nuclear Equipment Solutions (NES)

Reports to: Manager, Equipment

Hours per week: 37.5

Number Required: 1

Starting Salary Range: $101,268 - $122,000. Exact compensation may vary depending on the individual experience and qualifications of each candidate. Applicants with greater or less than the minimum qualifications for this posted opportunity may be considered for alternate opportunities.

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

  • Design, analyze, and maintain complex nuclear plant systems, equipment, tooling, and skid-based process systems.
  • Develop system architectures and technical specifications for maintenance, upgrades, and new installations.
  • Perform system integration activities across mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and I&C systems.
  • Prepare and execute test plans, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), commissioning activities, and system validation.
  • Support equipment selection, procurement engineering, supplier oversight, and vendor document reviews.
  • Conduct system performance assessments, reliability evaluations, troubleshooting, and root cause investigations.
  • Support plant maintenance, refurbishment, modernization, and outage projects.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable nuclear codes, standards, quality requirements, and regulatory expectations (e.g., CNSC, CSA, ASME, IEEE).
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, customers, suppliers, and stakeholders to deliver engineering solutions.
  • Contribute to proposals, project planning, technical reports, continuous improvement initiatives, and R&D activities.
  • Occasional support during plant outages, commissioning, or emergency response situations.
  • Combination of office, laboratory, and nuclear plant site environments,


What You Need to Succeed

  • A Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Electrical/Electronics, Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) and a minimum of 4 years of relevant engineering experience in the Nuclear industry.
  • Knowledge of CANDU reactor technology and nuclear plant systems.
  • Experience with process systems, skid-mounted equipment, or custom equipment design/build projects.
  • Familiarity with nuclear codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with digital I&C modernization, functional safety, or industrial cybersecurity.
  • Experience managing suppliers, procurement activities, or manufacturing oversight.
  • Strong systems thinking in highly complex, safety-critical environments.
  • Commitment to nuclear safety culture, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to manage multidisciplinary engineering interfaces.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and results-oriented approach.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility in Ontario.
  • Ability to successfully obtain and maintain a nuclear security site clearance


This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
