QualificationsAll qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement - 08/24/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Competitive candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.
For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted.
An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the work schedule requirement as the service dates will be reflected. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience.
Basic Educational Requirements: You must meet at least one of the following, in addition to the specialized experience listed below:GS-0101: Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelors or higher degree in behavioral or social science; or closely related discipline directly appropriate to this position such as history, historic preservation, cultural anthropology or archeology;
OR Combination of education and experience that provided me with the knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field;
OR At least four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. (You must document this experience in your application).
GS-0401: Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position;
OR Combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major described above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
GS-0808: Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in architecture; or related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems
OR Combination of education and experience college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by at least one of the following:
- Related Curriculum: Degree in architectural engineering may be accepted as satisfying in full the basic requirements, provided the completed course work in architectural engineering provided knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those provided in the courses specified in paragraph A. The curriculum for a degree in either architecture or architectural engineering covers function, esthetics, site, structure, economics, mechanical-electrical, and other engineering problems related to the design and construction of buildings primarily (but not exclusively) intended to house human activities. The courses required for a degree in architecture generally place emphasis upon planning, esthetics, and materials and methods of construction, while the courses for an architectural engineering degree place equal or greater weight on the technical engineering aspects such as structural systems, mechanical systems, and the properties of materials. Because of this difference in emphasis, persons with degrees in architecture may have a preference for work assignments that offer greater opportunities for them to express their artistic and creative abilities. As a result, they may be more concerned with planning and design aspects of architecture, and persons with degrees in architectural engineering may be more engaged in aspects emphasizing technical engineering considerations.
- Experience: An applicant lacking a degree in architecture must have had l year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture. In the absence of college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated that the applicant has acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture.
In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements, you must also possess specialized experience in the amount listed below.GS-14: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: Led a resource or project program that included professional occupations related to history, historic preservation, anthropology, archeology, architecture landscape architecture, and biological or physical sciences; developed and implemented solutions to cultural or natural resource management issues; developed, applied and evaluated various Federal laws; facilitated public forums to elicit feedback on controversial issues; led a complex stewardship focused organization that sought to implement cultural resource or natural resource management programs; prepared and presented analyses of technical information to organizational leadership, and interpreted laws for management and public use.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
