Summary

As a Supervisory Adjudication Officer for Parole Operations, you will supervise and evaluate staff that interpret, apply, and enforce the Immigration and Nationality Act, make discretionary determinations on requests for parole, and conduct independent research in the adjudication of immigration applications and petitions.

Duties

  • Supervise and evaluate staff that make determinations on requests for parole based on urgent reasons and/or significant public benefit.
  • Monitor the parole and other related program operations to develop procedures for promoting quality and efficiency.
  • Plan, assign, and review work. Provide advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.
  • Identify training needs of employees. Provide or arrange for needed development and training and/or find ways to improve productivity and operational practices and promote team building,
  • Establish effective working relationships with individual attorneys or representatives, attorney groups, community-based organizations, intra-agency stakeholders, and other government agencies.
  • Represent the division, directorate and agency in various capacities to promote the agency's mission.
  • Interpret, apply, and enforce the Immigration and Nationality Act and conduct independent research in the adjudication process.

This position IS NOT considered "essential" for purposes of reporting to work when the facility might otherwise be closed.

Residency Requirement: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This residency requirement states that candidates must have, for three of the last five years immediately prior to applying for this position; (1) resided in the United States; OR (2) worked for the United States Government as an employee overseas in a Federal or Military capacity, OR (3) been a dependent of a U.S. Federal or Military employee serving overseas.

Supervisory/Managerial Probationary Period: You may be required to serve a twelve-month probationary period upon appointment to this position. You may also be required to complete an appropriate supervisory training course within one year of assignment to this position.

Qualifications

The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 09/04/2026.

Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 09/04/2026.


GS-14: You qualify at the GS-14 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the majority of the following duties:

  • Conducting and reviewing comprehensive security checks on immigration cases and evaluating evidence for fraud, national security, and public safety concerns;
  • Making final determinations on complex and sensitive immigration benefits cases that are discretionary, have high visibility and are of great importance to the agency;
  • Developing and drafting policy and/or operational guidance for the provision of immigration benefit services.

EDUCATIONAL SUBSTITUTION: There is no educational substitution at this grade level.

Training: If you have not already done so, you will be required to attend any training that relates to this position as required by the agency. This training may last multiple weeks and may be held in-person or virtually. The training must be completed successfully according to the standards of the agency. Failure to do so will be grounds for mandatory removal from the position. Such failure will result in either reassignment to a different position, demotion, or separation by appropriate procedures.
