Full Job Description
OVERVIEW: A Subsurface Utility Engineer (SUE) - Project Manager plays a pivotal role at McKim & Creed, in overseeing and managing various SUE projects. In this role, you will be responsible for managing projects from inception to completion, ensuring that all services meet the company's quality standards and client specifications. You will act as the key point of contact between McKim & Creed and its clients, overseeing the day-to-day operations of both field and office staff involved in multiple SUE and survey projects. Strong communication skills will be essential for effectively interfacing with sub-consultants and other business relationships.

DURING YOUR WORK DAY, YOU WILL:
  • Be responsible for the management of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) projects including the phase/task management of the geomatics portion of multi discipline projects.
  • Also be responsible for proposal writing, meeting schedules, profitability of work, quality of the work, directing project effort, monitoring and processing financial information, and collecting fees.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships, assign and direct the project team, conduct project communications within the company and to outside stakeholders, and control project performance.
  • Coordinate with state and local municipalities to obtain proper certifications and permits for SUE work in their jurisdictions.
  • Train SUE technicians in the theory of utility designating and practical application of designating methods.
  • Train and supervise SUE crews in vacuum excavation (test holes).
  • Coordinate with SUE Project Coordinator and SUE Operations Manager on weekly scheduling.
  • Provide oversight and monitor SUE activities to ensure assignments meet performance goals.
  • Recruit, hire, manage, mentor, and retain staff necessary to maintain and/or improve the SUE's unit's ability to produce a quality work product

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
  • 5 years' experience in SUE Project Management, including management of multiple SUE crews.
  • Understanding of financial metrics and ability to perform monthly prebill reconciliation and help accounting with monthly billing.
  • Experience managing subconsultants to perform SUE services such as traffic control, vacuum services, concrete cutting, removal and repair.
  • Motivation and eagerness to perform business development to generate new work.
  • Written & verbal communication and negotiation skills; knowledgeable in AutoCad and MicroStation; sound engineering technical skills.
  • An attitude that is: results oriented, decisive, take charge, persuasive, adaptable to change, has a sense of urgency, self-directed, self-reliant and understand big picture.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.
  • A valid driver's license, an acceptable motor vehicle record, cleared background check and a negative drug test result.
