What is the opportunity?

The opportunity available is working as a the QE Strategy Lead in the Finance IT SubLedger team, supporting Capital Markets and Insurance.

SLIM and RISE are the strategic SubLedgers for Capital Markets and Insurance, respectively, built on an on-premise vendor solution, Aptitude Accounting Hub. SLIM and RISE source data from Front Office Systems via the Enterprise Data Lake and reference data from golden source applications, then apply business rules to generate accounting and execute various subledger functions, including balance sheet netting and remittance, to support our business users with their daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reporting, business reviews, reconciliations, and other financial analysis.

The QE Strategy Lead will be responsible for rolling out 'best practice' methods for processes and testing, developing metrics to track efficiency and testing improvements, building out the capabilities of the QE team, creating and implementing strategic changes relating to processes, quality, and technologies, and expanding the use and application of AI. The selected candidate will work closely with the SLIM and RISE delivery managers and QE teams, along with the FIAT QE Strategy team to create and implement a robust quality engineering framework for the Subledger QE space.

This position involves interaction at all levels within the organization, from technical personnel to high level management, meaning exceptional communication skills are a must for this role. Given the business lines and stakeholders that we support, this role requires a candidate who is comfortable working in fast paced, high pressure environments.

What will you do?
  • Develop and roll out project management 'best practices' based on prior experience, focusing on test strategy, planning and structured testing disciplines (e.g. quality gating).
  • Create framework for QE teams to produce comprehensive test strategies for complex, integrated systems, including defining regression, smoke, and UAT plans
  • Champion the adoption of shift left / shift up behaviours across FIAT and with our IT and business / functional partners and use those behaviours to improve and structure the end-to-end strategy
  • Establish a training & culture change to shift testing activities left / up for any large programs/changes, and include Quality Engineering activities earlier in the scoping, definition, and development of software changes
  • Develop metrics for efficiencies & improvements for testing
  • Improve the coordination and use of DevOps resources and outputs
  • Collaborate with FIAT QE Enablement team to develop standard practices and automation frameworks for data ingestion & test environments setup, focused on ensuring integrity of static data for testing, and ensure Enterprise and COE standard practices are applied within SLIM & RISE teams
  • Work with our CFO & IT partners to establish pragmatic approaches to increase agility of front to back programs
  • Work with upstream Data Provider Teams to troubleshoot, provide requirements, and coordinate end-to-end testing implementation
  • Contribute to successful project completion within budget and on time by identifying risks and developing/recommending mitigation strategies
  • Ensure that strong testing disciplines are applied to all work, in order to enable RBC's competitiveness
  • Ensure that test planning produced is thorough, efficient, and clear and effectively communicated to business partners and stored for future use
  • Provide senior management with timely and transparent information with respect to testing status, program direction and individual program testing updates, as required
  • Leverage AI capabilities to improve testing quality and speed
  • Make recommendations on process improvements and system enhancements to optimize performance and efficiency
  • Get hands on in test creation, producing runbooks, environment building and batch/testing execution when extra help is required
  • Lead, coach and develop highly skilled and diverse IT professionals, motivating and challenging to create high performing collaborative teams
  • Demonstrable experience managing, both directly and in a matrix organization, large teams of quality engineers towards a common goal
  • Ensure QE teams' performance meets or exceeds business expectations
  • Exemplify good interpersonal skills in listening, mediation, influencing and conflict resolution
  • Collaborate with project managers, developers, quality engineers, and business analysts to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.


Must-have:
  • Undergraduate degree and/or post-graduate degree, preferably in Mathematics, Computer Engineering, Business, or Finance
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience working as a QE / QA, preferably with lead experience, with progressively increasing responsibilities in the areas of test management on large, integrated applications and complex programs
  • Minimum 3 years of People Management experience
  • Experience implementing automation strategies & framework
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and using Artificial Intelligence for testing
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in Agile delivery, including tools and techniques for requirement decomposition
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions) and test management tools (Jira, qTest).
  • Experience in backend and data testing, with Oracle databases and using SQL queries
  • Experience with UNIX
  • Proficient with batch scheduling tools (ideally StoneBranch)
  • Strong proficiency in webservice/API testing and database validation
  • Expert time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Ability to lead, coach and mentor others while providing constructive feedback
  • Ability to clearly articulate problems and solutions, influence stakeholders and other teams and negotiate priorities between business needs and testing feasibility
  • Scrum Management experience, provide high level key deliverable plan and detail break down to user stories and major tasks; providing guidance and leadership through to the scrum team during all project phases; ability to handle pressure with multiple priorities

  • Programming experience (Python, Java)
  • Experience in testing Capital Markets or Insurance applications and systems

  • Interest in systems analysis and business analysis
  • Background in data processing (storing & processing), data engineering, data modelling
