Full Job Description
Staff Systems Design Engineer

San Jose, CA or Colorado Springs, CO

As a Staff Systems Design Engineer at Analog Devices, you will drive next-generation mixed-signal IC products from concept through production silicon, working across the full design stack - analog, digital, firmware, and system architecture. You'll provide technical leadership on critical projects, contribute to architectural decisions, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate thrives working across disciplines rather than within a single one, combining deep technical expertise with broader system understanding to drive innovation and ensure successful product delivery.

Experience with or strong willingness to adopt AI-assisted design methodologies is essential. Our team actively uses agentic AI and LLM-driven workflows to accelerate design, verification, and process migration. Candidates not open to this approach are not a fit.

Qualifications
• 8+ years of IC design experience spanning analog, digital, or mixed-signal. MSEE or PhD in Electrical Engineering.
• Demonstrated ability to work across disciplines - analog circuit design, digital RTL/synthesis, mixed-signal integration, and system-level architecture. Not a single-domain specialist.
• Proven track record of successful IC tape-outs and silicon validation.
• Experience delivering designs from concept through layout to production.
• Experience with the following types of systems: power management, sensor interfaces, and data converters.
• Proficiency in industry EDA tools including Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/ADE, digital synthesis and place-and-route flows.
• Strong understanding of CMOS process technology from mature nodes (180nm) through advanced nodes, including electromigration, aging, and technology limitations.
• Deep understanding of IC layout considerations, including parasitics, matching, and performance optimization, with the ability to guide layout decisions.
• Silicon bring-up and lab debug experience - comfortable on the bench with scopes, analyzers, and evaluation boards.
• Strong customer focus and highly motivated to succeed. Candidate must have collaborated across disciplines to ensure products meet customer requirements and timelines.
• Experience applying AI/ML tools to IC design workflows - agentic AI, LLM-assisted code generation, automated verification, or AI-driven design exploration (preferred).
• Firmware and embedded development experience (C/C++, Python, microcontroller programming) preferred.
• SystemVerilog and UVM verification experience preferred.
• Experience with multiple foundry process nodes and process migration preferred.
