Position Summary:

Bio-Techne is seeking an innovative and experienced Staff Scientist to join our team as a key technical leader with a focus on Process Optimization, initially supporting the Maurice product line. Positioned within the Research and Development Science group (R&D Science), this role bridges assay science, hardware engineering, consumables design, manufacturing, and end‑user application teams to ensure robust real-world performance of instruments, reusable consumables, and reagents.

The Staff Scientist will lead root cause analysis (RCA) and troubleshooting to resolve product performance issues, distinguishing assay, design, and manufacturing drivers through data analysis and targeted experimentation. The role also defines and executes process optimization and validation strategies, supports manufacturing scale‑up, and grows into a recognized subject matter expert for the capillary electrophoresis‑based Maurice platform, providing cross‑functional technical guidance from development through customer support. Ideal candidates bring deep understanding and hands-on experience in life‑science consumables or instrumentation, strong assay troubleshooting abilities, advanced problem‑solving and statistical skills, and a proven track record of driving cross‑disciplinary technical investigations to resolution.

If you want to make better analytical tools to enable our customers to make better medicines, apply today.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a deep understanding of the interplay between assay/reagents, hardware, and production processes and act as a technical lead in root cause analysis (RCA) investigations.

  • Define and execute validation plans for design or process changes based on customer usage data and patterns related to product failures or performance variability.

  • Interface with development and manufacturing teams to evaluate and implement reagent or consumable designs, manufacturing protocols, and process controls.

  • Collaborate closely with development scientists/engineers and applications teams to thoroughly understand and troubleshoot end-user workflows, challenges, and assay requirements. May include interactions directly with customers.

  • Support continuous improvement by optimizing, validating and implementing manufacturing process improvements for reagents and high-volume consumables.

  • Prepare technical reports, failure analysis documentation, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

  • International travel (Canada) will be required (estimated 1-4 times per year)

Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. degree in Biology, Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry or relevant scientific or technical field

  • 10+ years’ experience in a technical or scientific role within life science instrumentation, consumables manufacturing, or regulated analytical environments

  • Demonstrated experience with assay development and troubleshooting, ideally in the context of biologics analytics.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with proven ability in applying advanced statistical methodologies to multifaceted data from assays, hardware, and process inputs to extract actionable insights.

  • Strong understanding of product design, development principles, and manufacturing processes for complex consumables/reagents used with scientific instruments.

  • Hands on experience in process development, scale-up, process implementation and/or validation in a commercial manufacturing facility.

  • Experience with root cause analysis and process validation, including design and execution of meaningful experiments to enable data-drive decisions.

  • Experience with managing multiple priorities while remaining flexible in fast-paced environment.

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; adept at working across scientific, engineering, and manufacturing teams.

  • Meticulous attention to detail; strong documentation of experimental designs, results, and plans through presentations and reports.
