Designing Solutions
• Apply expert industry knowledge and broad understanding of multiple disciplines with technical knowledge to drive outcomes for customers

• Design systems and software integration patterns across a diverse software engineering ecosystem. These patterns should align to high level engineering goals and business initiatives

• Act as an SME to provide over all operations and support processes to build resilient systems for the enterprise
Setting product/platform technology strategy
• Lead the design of critical path/technology for the product group. Contribute to innovative solutions that align to strategic objectives for the customer
• Provide platform technology expertise to teams within product group as well as interdependent teams across the organization
• Help to define the technology / tools roadmap along with the product owner for the team.
Defining Engineering Standards and Patterns
• Partner with the engineering community inside and outside Thrivent in establishing best practices
• Share engineering standards across internal teams and collaborate to help software engineers apply these patterns to build solutions that achieve outcomes
DevOps
• Lead the resolution of critical incidents and provides leadership in proactively addressing product issues
• Continuously assessing technology to build more stable, scalable, and resilient software
• Promote and expand on the use of the CI/CD pipeline to improve the deployment and build process.
Selecting & Managing Technology Vendors
• Lead the evaluation process for software solutions - advising on strengths and weaknesses of the external software.
• Provide a summary of how a tool impacts business processes and goals.
• Contribute in criteria's for selecting the right platforms and software for the product team.
Mentorship
• Provide guidance and reinforcement around established engineering best practices
• Serve as technical leader and subject matter expert on data engineering
• Provide trainings and demos to address knowledge gaps with in the team
Position is based out of and reports to Thrivent's HQ in Minneapolis, MN, but allows for the option to telecommute from a home office anywhere in the United States.
Requirements: Bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or Data Science and Engineering and 7 years of progressively responsible, post baccalaureate experience as a data engineer, software engineer, or technology consultant in engineering environments.
Special skills/ requirements include:
• At least 7 years of experience in data engineering working with Big Data Technologies: (1) Apache Spark or PySpark and (2) Hadoop.
• At least 7 years of experience building Data pipelines (Batch or Streaming).
• At least 5 years of experience working with Scripting Languages including Python or Shell Scripting.
• At least 5 years of experience with DevOps practices such as CI/CD pipelines using Github, Gitlab and Bamboo.
• At least 4 years of experience working with JVM Languages including Java or Scala.
• At least 4 years of experience working with Cloud technologies: AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
• At least 3 years of experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Chef or Terraform
• At least 3 years of experience with data streaming frameworks such as Apache Kafka, Kinesis
• At least 1 year of experience working with modern datastack, using tools such as dbt, Databricks with Delta Lake or Snowflake.
• .At least 1 year of experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or ECS.
Must also have demonstrable experience in each of the following:
• Experience in ETL, SQL, Informatica Power Center, Databases like SQL server, DB2, Oracle
• Experience with Datawarehouse model with STAR, Snowflake and 3NF schema
• Experience with BI development and reporting.
• Experience with developing, executing test cases, UAT, and integration test.
Salary: At least $180,000/year
