You'll serve as a technical leader and force multiplier for one of our engineering squads at Jove. As a Staff Engineer, you'll guide and unblock senior engineers while shaping technical direction for our case management platform used by personal injury law firms.
What You'll Do
- Guide and unblock Senior Engineers on complex technical challenges
- Lead technical design and architecture decisions for major features
- Collaborate with the Director of Engineering and Product team on long-term technical strategy
- Review code and provide technical mentorship across your squad
- Drive engineering best practices around testing, observability, and code quality
- Participate in daily standups and bi-weekly sprint planning sessions
- Ship code alongside your team while maintaining technical leadership responsibilities
- Identify and resolve technical debt and performance bottlenecks
- Contribute to infrastructure decisions and GitOps workflows
- Ensure features are properly instrumented for monitoring and debugging
Who You'll Work With
- Report directly to the Director of Engineering
- Lead and mentor a squad of 5-6 Senior and Associate Engineers
- Partner with the other Staff Engineers and Project Manager on cross-squad initiatives
- Meet regularly with Product Managers and Designers on long-term roadmap planning
- Collaborate with the QA Engineer on your squad to ensure quality standards
- Engage with the Director of Engineering and Project Manager on technical strategy
What We're Looking For
- Extensive experience building and scaling production web applications
- Deep expertise in Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and full-stack development
- Proven track record of technical leadership and mentoring engineers
- Strong architectural and system design skills
