PayPal, Inc. seeks Sr Software Engineer in San Jose, CA
Job Duties: Design, develop, test, and release software applications using modern programming languages and frameworks. Participate in system and application design decisions and provide robust, scalable design solutions for applications deployed on cloud platforms. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support development of web, mobile, or data-driven application components, as needed. Write unit and integration tests, conduct code reviews, and maintain high coding standards. Provide operational support to ensure the quality of application(s), by setting up CI/CD pipelines, monitoring & alerts, etc. Engage with cross-functional teams in an Agile/Scrum environment (sprint planning, daily stand-up, and release management), provide design insights, and handle inquiries from stakeholders as part of on-call support rotations. Mentor team members and provide guidelines for coding best practices and newer technologies. Drive architecture discussions, produce well-documented design docs, and participate in design and code reviews. Migrate old software code to new technologies and software architecture to take advantage of the latest technologies. Build various enterprise-level applications like web apps, APIs, and browser extensions. Ensure code quality and maintainability by evolving architecture and tech stack, refactoring, standards, and improving build and test systems. Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.
Minimum Requirements: Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field, plus three years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation. Special Skill Requirements:
1. Programming skills in Node.js. (JavaScript or TypeScript) (3 years);
2. Experience with Golang or Python (3 years)
3. Experience with React and modern front-end architecture (2 years);
4. Experience with cloud computing platforms (3 years);
5. Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and debugging.
6. Experience developing unit, integration, and functional test suites (3 years);
7. Experience working with large-scale, distributed, event-driven, highly available software systems (1 year);
8. Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows with Kubernetes, Docker, CircleCI, and Git (2 years);
9. Experience with microservices architecture, API design (GraphQL, REST), and database optimization (SQL/NoSQL) (3 years)
10. Experience with distributed caching and in-memory data technologies, including open-source or managed cloud-based solutions. (3 years)
11. Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools for sprint planning and release management.
12. Knowledge of browser extension (web or mobile safari) development.
Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:
The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:
Primary Location | Pay Range:
San Jose, California | Salary: $186,142.00-270,500.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
