PayPal, Inc. seeks Sr Software Engineer in San Jose, CA
Job Duties: Maintain and enhance PayPal's payment risk control features and management platforms. Oversee the full lifecycle of features within the payment infrastructure, from creation and deployment to ongoing optimization at crucial business events. Implement differentiated delivery workflows based on feature requirements, such as real-time contextual analysis for low-latency delivery, event-driven logic for mid-term features using Aerospike, and periodic data warehouse synchronization for long-term features. Develop and use PayPal's proprietary tool UMEngine to convert complex feature logic into deployable artifacts, embedding them into the feature management platform. Collaborate with the data science team to interpret business requirements and design executable Spark pipelines, including data transformations, feature engineering, complex computations, aggregations, and input/output processing. Optimize Spark pipelines by tuning cluster resources and refactoring code, then utilize PayPal's internal platform DataALM to maintain job stability by executing failure diagnosis, retry mechanisms, and proactively monitoring progress to ensure job SLA remains above 99% and executes reliable downstream data delivery. Drive the design, implementation, and optimization of PayPal's internal operations automation platform architecture, developing tools for OpsErrorAgent and focusing on improving process efficiency and system reliability. Design automated workflows for monitoring, SOP recommendation, and resolution approval, using proprietary automation tools and cloud-based solutions for realtime data persistence and integration. Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.
Minimum Requirements: Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus three years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation. Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus five years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
Special Skill Requirements:
1. Experience designing and developing distributed data processing systems using Apache Spark for payment transaction processing and risk feature development (3 years).
2. Experience leveraging Python for data engineering and implementation of risk models or feature logic in production environments (3 years).
3. Experience using SQL-based data warehouse platforms such as Hive or BigQuery to support large-scale data analysis and historical data processing (3 years).
4. Experience working with distributed data storage technologies such as Hadoop or HBase to support large-scale data processing (3 years).
5. Experience designing and implementing workflow orchestration pipelines using Apache Airflow or similar tools in production systems (3 years).
6. Experience deploying risk models or feature logic into enterprise risk management platforms or transaction decisioning systems (3 years).
7. Experience optimizing solution performance in high-throughput financial transaction systems (3 years).
8. Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate business or risk requirements into production-ready solutions within payment technology platforms (3 years).
9. Experience implementing real-time or event-driven architectures for high-throughput, low-latency systems, including the use of NoSQL databases such as Aerospike (2 years).
10. Experience building, deploying, and operating containerized applications using Kubernetes and Docker in cloud environments (2 years).

The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:

San Jose, California | Salary: $169,576.00-243,500.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
