PayPal, Inc. seeks Sr Software Engineer in Chicago, IL
Job Duties: Code high-volume and scalable software (front-end and back-end focused). Create web applications using React/Node, back-end services using Java, SQL, ReST and/or building and developing new user-facing experiences. Partner closely with cross functional teams in design, product and other business units. Leverage Al (artificial intelligence) to enhance application capabilities, driving intelligent and dynamic functionality. Design and implement micro-service and high concurrency service design and optimization. Troubleshoot interface software and debug application codes. Monitor and improve system performance. Write automation tests and maintaining CI pipeline health status. Document application changes and develop updates. Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.
Minimum Requirements: Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus three years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
Special Skill Requirements:
1. React with Redux (3 years) - Experience developing modular, scalable, and responsive front-end applications using React and Redux frameworks, implementing efficient state management, and optimizing performance for enterprise-scale platforms.
2. Apollo Client / Server and GraphQL (2 years) - Experience architecting schema-driven APIs and building GraphQL-based data services, implementing caching, and polling strategies.
3. Node.js (2 years) - Experience developing backend services and APIs using Node.js, and implementing event-driven asynchronous programming for scalable and high-performance web applications.
4. Express.js (2 years) - Experience designing and implementing RESTful and GraphQL APIs using Express.js, and integrating middleware for routing, validation, and security across backend microservices. Spring Boot (Java) with Message
5. Queues - Kafka / PubSub (2 years) - Experience developing microservice-based backend systems using Spring Boot, implementing asynchronous communication and event-driven data pipelines with Kafka or Pub/Sub.
6. SQL (2 years) - Experience designing normalized relational database schemas, writing optimized SQL queries, and managing data integration between backend APIs and client-side applications.
7. Cypress.io (1 year) - Experience developing automated end-to-end and regression testing frameworks using Cypress.io to ensure software stability and maintain high code quality across releases.
8. Figma (UX Prototyping) (1 year) - Experience collaborating with UX teams using Figma to translate interactive prototypes into functional, user-focused, and visually consistent web interfaces.
9. Python (1 year) - Experience developing automation tools and backend integrations using Python, performing data transformation and optimizing system workflows for improved efficiency.
10. AWS Cloud Services (EC2, S3, Lambda) (1 year) - Experience deploying, scaling, and managing cloud-based applications using AWS infrastructure components such as EC2, S3, or Lambda to ensure scalability and system reliability.

The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:

Chicago, IL | Salary: $130,707.00-199,500.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
