PayPal Data Services, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of PayPal, Inc., seeks Sr Software Engineer in Austin, TX
Job Duties: Design and develop services applying advanced design patterns and architectural best practices. Oversee automation coverage and continuous integration pipelines across projects to enhance delivery efficiency. Collaborate with architects, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver integrated technical solutions. Lead Agile SDLC execution and coordinate end-to-end feature delivery across teams. Conduct and lead peer design and code reviews, ensuring adherence to PayPal engineering standards. Define technical standards, design patterns, and code-review practices for the team. Mentor and guide junior engineers; review designs, provide feedback, and lead technical discussions. Drive CI/CD automation, security hardening, and reliability engineering efforts across systems. Integrate agentic AI solutions to enhance software development efficiency, automate workflows, and improve system reliability. Architect and design large-scale, distributed systems ensuring scalability, performance, and high availability. Lead performance optimization, observability, and incident-response processes across services. Partner with product and architecture leaders to define technical roadmaps and long-term engineering strategies. Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.
Minimum Requirements: Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field, plus three (3) years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
Special Skill Requirements:
1. Experience with the following Programming Languages: Java (version 17 or higher), Python (version 3 or higher), JavaScript (ES6 or higher), and TypeScript. (3 years);
2. Experience with the following Databases & Data Stores: Oracle Database (version 12c or higher), PostgreSQL, MongoDB (version 4.4 or higher), Cassandra, Redis (version 6 or higher), Elasticsearch (version 6 or higher), and Neo4j. (3 years);
3. Experience with the following Backend Frameworks & ORM: Spring Boot (version 2 or higher), Hibernate, Node.js (version 18 or higher), Express.js (version 4 or higher), and FastAPI. (3 years);
4. Experience with Frontend Development utilizing React (version 16 or higher), D3.js, Redux, React Hooks, React Router, Webpack, Vite, Tailwind CSS, HTML5, and CSS3. (3 years);
5. Experience with API Development & Protocols: RESTful APIs, GraphQL, gRPC, OpenAPI/Swagger, WebSocket, Server-Sent Events (SSE), Protocol Buffers, JSON Web Tokens (JWT), OAuth 2.0, and SAML 2.0. (3 years);
6. Experience with Event-Driven & Distributed Messaging Systems: Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, and Google Cloud Pub/Sub. (2 years);
7. Experience with the following Cloud, Containers & Infrastructure: Docker (version 20 or higher), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Kubernetes (GKE), and Cloud Run. (2 years);
8. Experience with Testing & CI/CD: Jest (version 29 or higher), Mocha, Supertest, Cypress, Playwright, Istanbul/NYC, Jenkins (version 2 or higher), GitHub Actions, Harness, and SonarQube. (2 years);
9. Experience with Monitoring & Observability utilizing Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, and Kibana. (2 years);
10. Experience with AI/ML & LLM Applications: LangChain, LangGraph, LangSmith, Milvus, Pinecone, Model Context Protocol (MCP), RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), n8n, numpy, and pandas. (1 year).
Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:
The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:
Primary Location | Pay Range:
Austin, TX | Salary: $139,152.00-221,500.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
