PayPal, Inc. seeks Sr Software Engineer in New York, NY
Job Duties: Serve as subject matter expert for the Payments Platform Engineering team, leading the design, implementation, and operational excellence of new software, features, and solutions. Drive architecture discussions, produce well-documented design docs, and participate in design and code reviews to ensure code is scalable, maintainable, and follows best practices. Contribute to the technicaI engineering roadmap by completing quality and thorough assessments of implementation alternatives and their associated trade offs and providing recommendations. Estimate engineering efforts and implement new and refactored software services on the platform securely, reliably, and at scale, utilizing knowledge and experience with RDBMS and NoSQLdata stores, caching solutions, and messaging/queuing protocols/systems such as SQS/Kafka/RabbitMQ/Pulsar. Own the performance and availability of the services and participate in on-call rotations to provide technical support. Patricipate in project planning, estimation, and tracking to ensure the timely delivery of software components. Optimize system performance and reliability. Develop automated tests and deliver high-quality software code to production within a short development cycle in the continuous integration and delivery environment. Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.
Minimum Requirements: Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus two years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation. Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus five years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
Special Skill Requirements:
1. Object-Oriented Design (OOD) - Applying design principles to structure scalable and maintainable applications (1 year)
2. Java - Developing enterprise-grade applications, backend services, and RESTful APIs (2 years)
3. Python - Building data tools and automation scripts using modern Python frameworks like Flask and Apache Spark (2 years)
4. Apache Spark - Large-scale data processing and analytics in distributed environments (1 year)
5. Kafka - Real-time messaging and data streaming across distributed systems (1 year)
6. REST APIs - Designing, building, and integrating performant web services (2 years)
7. Spring Boot - Developing microservices and backend services with enterprise-grade performance (2 years)
8. CI/CD - Automating build, test, and deployment pipelines for rapid software delivery (2 years)
9. RDBMS / SQL, Managing structured data and optimizing queries using relational databases (2 years)
10. NoSQL - Working with distributed storage systems such as CockroachDB, Redis for scalable storage solutions (2 years)
11. AWS - Cloud deployment, storage, and compute provisioning for high availability (1 year)
12. Distributed System Design - Architecting systems with redundancy, scalability, and fault tolerance across services and environments (2 years)
13. SQS / RabbitMQ / Pulsar - Implementing asynchronous communication using queuing protocols (1 year)
14. DevOps & Shell Scripting - Maintaining infrastructure as code, writing scripts for deployment, automation, and system operations (1 year)
Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:
The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:
Primary Location | Pay Range:
New York, NY | Salary: $189,592.00-300,500.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
