This role helps drive technology solutions supporting one of the largest mortgage lending platforms in the United States.

loanDepot is evolving from traditional software development toward an AI-enabled and increasingly agentic engineering model. This role will help advance that evolution-combining strong software engineering fundamentals with modern AI-assisted development practices to deliver high-quality solutions faster and more effectively.

Our core technology ecosystem is centered on C#/.NET, Microsoft SQL Server, Azure, and modern web technologies. Python and other technologies are used where they are the right tools for the problem.

This is a hands-on senior engineering role. Successful engineers will be comfortable working across existing enterprise systems, modern cloud-native applications, rapid prototypes, and emerging AI-native and agentic solutions.
Enterprise Software Engineering
  • Design, build, test, and support enterprise-grade software and services that solve meaningful business problems.
  • Develop and evolve applications primarily using C#/.NET, SQL Server, Azure, APIs, and related technologies, while leveraging Python and other languages and frameworks where appropriate.
  • Participate in rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept development to transform business opportunities into working software that can be evaluated and evolved into production solutions.
  • Modernize existing applications while maintaining enterprise stability, security, performance, and reliability.
  • Design APIs, reusable services, integrations, data models, and platform capabilities.
  • Work directly with product, business, architecture, and engineering partners to understand problems and deliver solutions.
  • Pick up new technologies quickly. Software development is constantly evolving; this role is expected to stay up-to-date.
Agentic Software Engineering
  • Use AI-assisted and agentic software development tools as a normal part of the engineering workflow to accelerate research, development, testing, debugging, documentation, modernization, and delivery.
  • Effectively direct and collaborate with coding agents by decomposing problems, providing context and constraints, evaluating generated solutions, and taking accountability for resulting software.
  • Own software quality regardless of how code is produced; ensure human-written and AI-generated code meets standards for correctness, security, maintainability, performance, testing, and observability.
  • Develop automated tests and use AI-enabled testing and validation techniques to shorten feedback cycles.
What Success Looks Like
  • Deliver applications, APIs, and integrations to support key business objectives.
  • Deliver high-quality solutions across multiple projects and teams while becoming effective quickly in new domains and codebases.
  • Demonstrate maintainability, security, testability, observability, and operational readiness in your work.

About loanDepot

LoanDepot, sometimes stylized as loanDepot, is a Lake Forest, California-based holding company which sells mortgage and non-mortgage lending products. In 2015, the company claimed to be the second largest non-bank provider of direct-to-consumer loans in the United States. LoanDepot was founded in 2010 by entrepreneur Anthony Hsieh, who had previously founded mortgage companies LoansDirect.com which he sold to E*Trade, and HomeLoanCenter.com, which he sold to LendingTree. The company's products at the time included fixed rate, jumbo, FHA and home equity loans, in addition to more controversial adjustable-rate mortgages and negative amortization products. In November 2015, the company postponed a planned IPO, citing poor market conditions. In March 2017, the company introduced technology to automate the loan process, allowing customers to apply for a mortgage without talking to a loan officer. In January 2018, the company announced two products as part of its technology platform, now called Mello, a home improvement unit to allow contractors to offer financing to customers, and Mello Home, a platform to connect pre-approved buyers to realtors. In September 2019, the company partnered with Century 21 Redwood Realty to form a new mortgage platform for the mid-Atlantic area, Day 1 Mortgage. loanDepot went public on the New York Stock Exchange on February 11, 2021 under the ticker symbol LDI.
