Position Summary
The Planning Manager (Strategic Planning) serves as a key advisor to the COO and plays a mission-critical
role in optimizing performance across GET Freight's transportation business. This position will oversee
operational planning, performance analytics, enterprise KPIs, and strategic initiatives aimed at
enhancing efficiency, profitability, and scalability across drayage, FTL, and brokerage operations.
Unlike traditional daily dispatch or yard oversight roles, this position focuses on macro-level operational
strategy, KPI governance, cross-functional alignment, and long-term planning. The ideal candidate will
be analytically driven, operationally fluent, and highly collaborative, with a passion for designing systems
that drive sustainable performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Development & Execution
• Design and lead long-term strategies that support growth and geographic expansion across
transportation verticals.
• Analyze transportation market trends, regulatory shifts, and competitive activity to inform
proactive planning.
• Translate executive vision into actionable transportation initiatives with clear goals and metrics.
• Conduct feasibility studies and market entry analysis to support new service lines or regions.
2. KPI Management & Performance Optimization
• Design, track, and report enterprise KPIs (e.g., on-time %, equipment utilization, cost per mile,
empty miles).
• Support operations teams in using dashboards and data to drive decision-making.
• Identify underperforming areas and lead root-cause analyses to implement sustainable
improvements.
3. Operational Planning & Performance Optimization
• Collaborate with Operations and Logistics teams to optimize service levels, network efficiency,
and cost performance.
• Develop data models, forecasts, and scenario plans to support strategic capacity and routing
decisions.
• Identify and implement improvements to terminal operations, routing structures, and network
configurations.
• Define and monitor KPIs that support continuous improvement and operational accountability.
4. Cross-Functional & Executive Collaboration
• Act as a strategic advisor to the COO and executive leadership team.
• Prepare and present strategic recommendations, dashboards, and performance reviews to
senior stakeholders.
• Drive organizational alignment between transportation strategy and enterprise planning,
finance, and customer operations.
• Facilitate cross-functional workshops and initiatives to support business transformation.
5. Technology & Innovation
• Lead the assessment and deployment of transportation technologies to improve visibility,
efficiency, and responsiveness.
• Stay informed on emerging innovations such as AI routing, autonomous freight, TMS/ERP
integration, and digital twin modeling.
• Promote a culture of digital innovation and continuous improvement across planning functions.
6. Risk Management & Compliance
• Monitor and mitigate transportation-related risks such as capacity constraints, fuel volatility,
and regulatory changes.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with FMCSA, DOT, environmental standards, and internal
governance protocols.
• Integrate risk assessments into transportation planning and strategy frameworks.
7. Vendor and Partner Strategy
• Build and manage strategic relationships with external partners including carriers, 3PLs, and
tech providers.
• Lead negotiation of contracts and service-level agreements (SLAs) to ensure cost-effective and
high-quality service.
• Identify and onboard strategic partners that support innovation and scalability in transportation
operations.
Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transportation, Business Administration, or related field
• 10+ years of experience in transportation and minimum 5+ years in a planning, strategy, or
executive support role
• Strong understanding of drayage, intermodal, truckload, and brokerage business models
• Proven experience in KPI governance, operational forecasting, and cost analysis
• Excellent communication skills for executive presentations and multi-team alignment
• Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, or equivalent planning and reporting tools
• Strong business acumen with the ability to balance strategic insight and operational grounding
Preferred:
• Master's degree or MBA
• Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma, PMP, or Continuous Improvement certifications
• Experience with TMS, ERP, and transportation technology platforms

• Experience in high-volume or asset-light logistics environments.

• Hands-on experience with TMS platforms and ERP integration (Oracle, SAP, or similar).
• Familiarity with automation tools, APIs, and transportation tech stack innovations.
Work Schedule and Location
• Standard workweek: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
• Occasional support for after-hours as required.
• Primary work location is Duluth, GA.
• Occasional travel to branch offices (Mobile, AL / Savannah, GA / Oakland, CA) may be required.
