Full Job Description
The Senior Payroll Analyst is part of the Payroll team, which is responsible for processing full-cycle, in-house payroll operations with multiple legal entities, over 5,000 employees, and within more than 40 state jurisdictions. The Payroll team is part of Corporate Finance and interacts with internal partners in Human Resources, Corporate Legal, IT, and business lines to ensure UMB's in-house payroll system is compliant with company policies and all federal, state, and local payroll laws.

As a Senior Payroll Analyst, you will be responsible for analyzing the complex payroll functions and calculations to support the Payroll team utilizing our Workday HRIS. You will ensure the Workday system, including Payroll, Time and Attendance, Absence Management, and Scheduling modules, are configured to comply with company policies and applicable payroll laws. This is a subset of the overall responsibilities that involve multiple other initiatives as assigned by Payroll leadership. The key to this role's success is the knowledge and ability to act as a subject matter expert in both the technical and payroll arenas. This role is hybrid working on-site Monday through Thursday for candidates in the Kansas City metropolitan area and open to qualified remote candidates outside of the Kansas City area but only within the US.

How you'll spend your time:
  • Review payroll audit reports for accuracy
  • Oversee the processing of benefit payments, such as insurance, vacations, and retirement plans.
  • Reconcile and process payroll information such as state-specific PTO and Sick leave adjustments for relocated employees, equity compensation, benefit deductions, and time accrual adjustments.
  • Works closely with employees, payroll manager, and payroll outsourcer to resolve complex payroll matters.
  • Annual review and update of payroll policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws to streamline all payroll and benefits administration processes.
  • Partner closely with the IT and HR teams to ensure that all system updates/upgrades and enhancements are reviewed, tested, and implemented timely to meet established deadlines.
  • Serve as a payroll liaison when working with cross-functional business teams to translate complex business needs to effective design recommendations, system analysis, system configuration, and lead testing and deployment activities.
  • Function as a subject matter expert for payroll-related projects and implementations, which may include weekly status meetings and testing sessions.
  • Research and resolve day-to-day Workday US Payroll, Time and Attendance, and Absence Management issues.
  • Perform routine reporting audits as well as respond to reporting requests and ad hoc reporting needs.
  • Create/update learning guides and hold training sessions with Workday users.
  • Serve as the primary backup for payroll tax reconciliation and timely filing of applicable payroll taxes and related tax returns.

  • You have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Information Systems, or related field and at least 3 years of payroll experience within Workday OR any combination of education and experience that would provide an equivalent background.
  • You have demonstrated proficiency in Workday payroll, specifically Payroll, Time & Labor, Scheduling, and Absence Management modules.
  • You have advanced proficiency in Excel to develop spreadsheets for financial analysis or to prepare and consolidate data for a variety of reports.
  • You have the ability and willingness to learn new tools, techniques, and skills.
  • You can understand employee payroll issues and communicate solutions proactively, effectively, professionally, and respectfully.

Compensation Ranges:

US Employees in California, Washington DC, New Jersey, and New York:
$69,920 - $109,460

US Employees in Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin:
$63,830 - $100,210

US Employees in all other states not listed above:
$57,760 - $90,960
