Overview of the Role

WestJet is seeking a Manager, Capital & Fuel Accounting. Reporting to the Director, Commercial & Operations Accounting, this role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting for the Capital and Fuel portfolio. The Manager, Capital & Fuel Accounting leads a team of accountants and analysts, oversees month-end close activities, and provides expert guidance on complex accounting matters. The Manager fosters a high-performing, collaborative environment while driving continuous improvement in processes, controls, and reporting practices. This role requires strong technical accounting judgment, systems and data problem-solving, and the ability to partner with operational stakeholders across complex Capital and Fuel activities.

Key Deliverables
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of accountants and analysts, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous growth.
  • Oversee month-end close activities, ensuring timely, accurate financial reporting, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Review and assess complex Capital and Fuel accounting matters, including IFRS compliance, accounting judgments, estimates, accruals, inventory, fixed assets, leases, and reporting impacts.
  • Prepare and support technical accounting assessments, audit-ready documentation, key controls, CSOx requirements, audits, and issue remediation for assigned portfolios.
  • Partner with operational, corporate, and FP&A stakeholders to resolve accounting issues, translate business activity into accurate financial reporting, and support forecasting and budgeting.
  • Leverage accounting systems, subledgers, and reporting tools to ensure data integrity, resolve issues, and enhance reporting efficiency.
  • Lead process improvement, standardization, documentation, and automation initiatives to strengthen controls, scalability, team effectiveness, and the integrity of financial information for business decision-making.


Experience & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • CPA designation
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a complex or large organization, audit/advisory environment, or technical/financial reporting role
  • Proven experience leading and developing teams, including coaching and performance management
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge under IFRS, with the ability to assess complex accounting matters, prepare or review accounting analysis, and support financial reporting conclusions
  • Experience with capital accounting, fixed assets, leases, inventory, fuel, aviation, transportation, or other complex operational accounting environments considered an asset
  • Experience working with ERP systems, subledger systems, reporting tools, and large-volume reconciliations considered an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and resolve complex accounting issues
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills across finance and business teams
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on process optimization, documentation, automation, and efficiency
