Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARYVertiv is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Busbar engineering team at our Anderson, SC facility.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is the highest-level individual contributor within the ETO Mechanical Engineering team and serves as the primary technical authority for engineered-to-order (ETO) busbar products across both Vertiv PowerBar HPB (high power/high amperage feeder and distribution busway) and Vertiv PowerBar Track (medium power open channel track busway) product lines.
This role combines advanced mechanical design responsibilities with technical leadership responsibilities focused on deep product expertise, engineering quality, process improvement, knowledge management, and team development.
The successful candidate will possess deep expertise in both PowerBar HPB and PowerBar Track product families - including distribution lengths, elbows, joint packs, feeder/end power boxes, cable end boxes (CEBs), and tap-off boxes (TOBs) and will serve as the primary escalation point for complex engineering challenges. This individual will lead initiatives to improve engineering quality, drive design standardization, mentor and develop mechanical engineers, and strengthen engineering processes across the organization.
In addition to executing complex customer projects, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will partner closely with Technical Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Sustaining Engineering, and Project Management teams to improve first-pass yield, reduce design-related defects, enhance manufacturability, and promote consistent engineering practices throughout the Busbar Line of Business.
RESPONSIBILITIESAdvanced Engineering & Product Ownership- Design and release complex engineered-to-order busbar assemblies, cable end boxes, and tap-off boxes for data center and mission-critical power applications across both PowerBar HPB and PowerBar Track product lines.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for both PowerBar HPB and PowerBar Track product families, including product configuration, UL/IEC compliance, and manufacturing implementation.
- Lead resolution of technically complex design challenges impacting engineering, manufacturing, installation, or customer satisfaction.
- Review unconventional customer requirements and develop compliant engineering solutions.
- Provide technical guidance related to UL857, IEC 61439, agency compliance, manufacturing constraints, and product performance.
- Support first-of-a-kind (FOAK) designs, product transfers, and new product introductions.
Technical Leadership- Act as the primary technical escalation point for Mechanical Engineers, Engineering Assistants, CAD resources, Manufacturing, and Project Management teams.
- Provide technical leadership during design reviews and engineering problem-solving sessions.
- Drive technical consistency and best practices across both PowerBar HPB and PowerBar Track engineering activities.
- Lead root cause investigations of engineering-related quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Support cross-functional teams in resolving manufacturing and field issues.
Mentoring & Talent Development- Mentor new mechanical engineers through structured onboarding, technical training, and project guidance across both product lines.
- Develop training materials, lessons learned, and product knowledge documentation.
- Provide coaching and technical feedback to engineers during design reviews.
- Support the development of engineering competency matrices and individual development plans.
- Promote engineering excellence through knowledge-sharing workshops and technical training sessions.
Engineering Quality Improvement- Establish and maintain drawing, modeling, and BOM quality standards.
- Lead initiatives to improve first-pass engineering quality (DFPY) and reduce release rework.
- Review engineering output for compliance with internal standards and industry requirements.
- Analyze recurring errors and implement preventive measures.
- Develop and maintain design validation checklists, release standards, and best practices.
Process Improvement & Standardization- Identify opportunities to improve engineering workflows, tools, and processes.
- Collaborate with Continuous Improvement, Quality, and Sustaining teams to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
- Drive standardization of models, drawings, BOM structures, and engineering documentation.
- Support development of design libraries, templates, and standardized configurations.
- Participate in engineering systems improvements involving SolidWorks, PDM, ERP (IFS/Oracle), and PLM platforms.
Cross-Functional Collaboration- Support Technical Engineers in preparing customer submittals and resolving technical comments.
- Work closely with Manufacturing to improve manufacturability and production efficiency.
- Collaborate with Sustaining Engineering to implement lessons learned and standardization initiatives.
- Partner with Sales, Project Management, and Operations teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Support global engineering collaboration initiatives across Vertiv busbar facilities (Anderson, RAK, Ireland, Pune).
