Sr. Manufacturing Engineer, Electromechanical Systems

Position Summary: The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer, Electromechanical Systems, is responsible for developing, implementing, and improving a variety of electromechanical assembly processes, new technology, and full production lines. Emphasis will be placed on the electromechanical assembly of precision firearm components and systems utilizing clearly defined technical drawings, and interchangeable parts. In addition, this position will require execution of manufacturing feasibility, quality planning, and corrective action for internal quality concerns while leading cross functional teams.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and design manufacturing processes in the plant while considering ESD control procedures for electromechanical assemblies.
  • Determine manufacturing processes for new and breakthrough firearm product designs while providing budgetary estimates for equipment, tools, gages, and production rate.
  • Use project management techniques to procure tooling and equipment for new products to meet launch timelines and cost targets.
  • Assume responsibility for achieving the cost, productivity, and quality goals for an entire production line while working with cross functional teams to achieve goals.
  • Generate annual cost savings plan for areas of responsibility via formal cost savings analysis using established procedures.
  • Evaluate and improve product designs for manufacturability while applying GD&T and dimensional stack-ups.
  • Debug and runoff new capital equipment in order to meet plant goals for quality throughput and cost.
  • Provide expert consultation in one or more areas for the design, development, and implementation of technical systems and manufacturing processes. Areas of expertise required include but are not limited to:
    • Electromechanical systems
    • Assembly
    • Metal finishing
    • Automation
  • Plan and execute turkey runoffs per SIG SAUER machine specification requirements including raw material and gages.
  • Specify and procure new capital equipment in order to meet plant goals for quality, throughput, and cost. Generate completely new machine specifications and negotiate requirements with suppliers.
  • Generate detailed process drawings, quality control plans, operator and set-up work instructions, and set-up sheets and production routings using SIG Agile product life cycle database. Work will focus on NPI (New Product Introduction) and entire production lines.
  • Recommend and implement new technology to improve quality of products, and/or procedures and the output and quality of manufacturing processes.
  • Resolve and prevent quality issues related to product and processes using statistical methods for entire production lines. Apply gage R&R, bias, dimensional stack-ups, control plan methodology, and GD&T. Focus on quality work will be balanced between legacy production and quality planning for NPI.
  • Maintain research, activity documentation, and prepare reports.
  • Perform as technical leader and resource to co-workers while actively mentoring less experienced Engineers on both mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Provide consultation on problem solving teams across multiple products and processes and complete assigned tasks and projects per agreed upon timelines.
  • May lead and actively volunteer for continuous improvement projects and tasks.
  • Participate in 5S Workplace organizational activities and maintain the area in good working order through sustainment activities, including requests for maintenance when needed for both personal space and multi-use department spaces.
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Education/Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, 7-10 years of previous experience.
  • Strong electromechanical systems experience such as mechanical assemblies, PCBAs, wiring, and embedded hardware.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical debugging tools including multimeter, oscilloscope and hardware bring-up.
  • Practical understanding of both digital and analog electrical systems.
  • In depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) ASME Y14.5M-2009.
  • Certification for Shainin Red X and/or Six Sigma desired.
  • Must be proficient using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and monday.com. Must be an expert in using SOLIDWORKS, and in the use of data analysis programs.
  • Good working knowledge of materials and heat-treating processes.
  • Good working knowledge of ESD control procedures including the proper use of an Electrostatic Protected Area (EPA)
  • Must be able to rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Possess experience in evaluating, building, and troubleshooting manufacturing processes, machinery, and production lines.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of supplier manufacturing processes for electrical components and PCBAs, including DFM/DFT principles, to ensure compliance with electrical specifications.
  • Must be able to work in a team, lead, plan, and execute multiple projects.
  • Quality of work must be very high.
  • Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form. Written and verbal communication of complicated subjects is required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Organization of documentation and recordkeeping shall be to a high standard. Skilled at the use of Gantt charts and formal project management techniques.
  • Possess a wide degree of creativity and latitude.


Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
