About the role:

As the Senior Manager, Commercial Sales, you will oversee the underwriting associates and underwriting support functions, ensuring service excellence, consistency, efficiency, and adherence to corporate risk standards. You will serve as a key resource to the underwriting team, providing coaching, training, process improvements, and strategic support during periods of elevated business volume.

About the day-to-day:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Underwriting Associates and underwriting support staff.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, technical guidance, and professional development opportunities.
  • Design and execute training programs, onboarding initiatives, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Oversee workflow management and resource allocation to meet service level expectations.
  • Support underwriting teams during peak volume periods through workload balancing and file review support.
  • Monitor underwriting quality and adherence to credit, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop operational reporting, dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Analyze data to identify trends, operational risks, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Drive process optimization initiatives, automation opportunities, and best practices.
  • Partner with senior leadership on strategic initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Credit, Funding, Risk, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead change management and maintain underwriting procedures and documentation.
  • Support recruitment, workforce planning, performance management, and succession planning.


About the qualifications:

  • 6+ years of progressive experience in commercial lending, commercial mortgage underwriting, credit adjudication, or commercial real estate financing.
  • 3+ years of people leadership experience managing underwriting, credit, sales support, or lending operations teams.
  • Proven experience underwriting and approving complex commercial real estate transactions, including construction, term, CMHC-insured, and conventional financing.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams in a high-volume, service-driven commercial lending environment.
  • Experience developing and implementing operational processes, workflow optimization initiatives, and performance metrics.
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial mortgage lending principles, underwriting methodologies, and credit risk assessment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of lending regulations, compliance requirements, and risk management frameworks.
  • Results-oriented mindset with a focus on service excellence, quality, efficiency, and risk management.
  • Strategic thinker who can balance risk management, operational efficiency, and business growth objectives.
  • Highly collaborative leader with strong business acumen and sound judgment.
  • Ability to identify operational risks, resolve issues proactively, and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Experience with financial modelling.
