Flexible Work Arrangement: Hybrid

This position is seeking a talented and motivated Market Design Specialist to join our dynamic team. The Market Design Specialist will work directly with the Manager of market design in support of significant market design enhancements across all PJM's markets and will be responsible for designing, analyzing and optimizing the market structures and rules to ensure efficiency, sustainability, and of most importance, reliability of the power system amongst the energy transition. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, PJM stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to develop innovative solutions that address the evolving needs of the electricity markets.

Essential Functions:

Market Analysis and Research:


  • Conduct comprehensive analysis of electricity market trends and other ISO/RTO market rules and practices to identity opportunities or inform design decisions
  • Market Design and Analysis:
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently in the performance of complex studies and analysis of issues.
  • Offers concepts and strategies pertaining to market design that will enable PJM to remain at the top of its field
  • Possesses a working knowledge of PJM markets and understanding of the PJM Agreements and Tariffs.
  • Applies expertise in solving new and complex problems and develops innovative strategies to evolve the PJM markets.
  • Develops position papers to support market design alternatives and facilitate internal decision making on complex market design matters
Stakeholder and Regulatory Engagement:
  • Manages the conflicting expectations of the various sectors represented by the market participants.
  • Develops and delivers presentations on complex ideas to internal and external stakeholders
  • Assists in the development of revisions to the PJM governing documents to support proposed market design changes
  • Works closely with PJM legal counsel in the development of FERC filings to support proposed market design changes, including drafting and revising transmittal letters and affidavits.
Project Management:
  • Leads the implementation of complex market design initiatives, driving cross-functional internal teams to consensus on selected market design approaches

Characteristics and Qualifications:
Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Economics, Mathematics or equivalent work experience
  • 5 years of experience Engineer/Analyst position
  • Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Ability to use mathematical and electrical theory
  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support
PJM is not STEM OPT eligible. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred:

  • MS degree in Engineering or at least 8 years of experience Sr. Engineer/Sr. Analyst
  • At least 8 years of experience Sr. Engineer/Sr. Analyst
  • Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions
