Primary Purpose

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Sr Interconnection Specialist will provide team leadership and training for the Interconnection Specialists on the Distributed Energy Resource (DER) interconnection team. This position will be responsible for more complex grid interactions. This position will act as the team lead for assigned projects and initiatives while ensuring day-to-day operational metrics are maintained by efficiently and accurately managing customer and developer applications for interconnection. The Sr Interconnection Specialist has primary responsibility to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with developers and customers seeking to interconnect DERs to the distribution system, while delivering a Premier Customer Experience throughout the process.

Primary Duties

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with customers, developers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure a Premier Customer Experience with the interconnection process. Act as primary liaison with complex / escalated DER Interconnection projects throughout the interconnection life cycle to address their needs and expectations. This includes assisting applicants with navigation and use of online interconnection tools; and providing guidance to, and resolving a variety of issues for, applicants such as applicable regulatory requirements and tariffs, and addressing incomplete or inaccurate applications. (25%)
  • Lead the processing of customer and developer applications for interconnection of DERs. Ensure team is meeting operational excellence with respect to the established internal and external metrics. Ensure the timely, efficient processing and transfer of required Interconnection documentation (e.g., applications, study agreements, contracts, certificates of completion, permission to operate) with customers and developers. (25%)
  • Support Interconnection initiatives and special projects. These initiatives often will work across all OpCos and can include external vendors and stakeholders. (15%)
  • Leverage effective working relationships with internal process stakeholders, and facilitate timely, efficient workflow between stakeholder organizations including Capacity Planning, Project Management, New Business, Net Metering, Billing, etc. (15%)
  • Maintain the integrity of Connect The Grid (CTG) by ensuring backlogged applications are addressed timely. Assist with the management of all CTG enhancements / upgrades, perform testing and coordinate deployment of new releases. (10%)
  • Interface with various Exelon enterprise programs and systems (e.g., Asset Suite 8, CIS, GIS) to facilitate processing of interconnection applications, and produce status, performance, and other process reports, as needed. . (10%)

Job Scope

JOB SCOPE

The Senior Interconnection Specialist serves as the team lead and subject matter expert (SME) for residential and small commercial Distributed Energy Resource (DER) interconnections.

This position is responsible for driving the team's operational excellence by ensuring compliance with established internal performance standards and external regulatory metrics. The Senior Interconnection Specialist fosters and maintains strong, effective relationships with DER developers, customers, and internal stakeholders, ensuring a premier customer experience throughout the interconnection lifecycle.

Key responsibilities include advising and supporting Interconnection Specialists on project execution to ensure efficient, accurate, and seamless processing across all phases of the interconnection lifecycle. This role is critical to the successful delivery of customer interconnection projects and adherence to all applicable regulatory requirements governing DER interconnections.

Additional responsibilities and expectations include:
  • Leading continuous improvement and strategic initiatives to enhance interconnection processes and team performance
  • Quantifying and analyzing DER data to support recurring regulatory reporting and business insights
  • Operating effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while consistently meeting PSC-mandated interconnection timelines
  • Staying current with evolving regulatory requirements, policies, and trends within the renewable energy landscape
  • May be required to work during storms or other energy delivery emergencies, which may require extended work hours

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree with 4+7 years of experience; or in lieu of a degree, must have 6-9 years of relevant business experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of prior Interconnection experience; or in lieu, must have minimum of 4 years electric utility experience.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of enterprise programs and systems that enable DER Interconnections including Asset Suite 8, GIS and Customer Information Systems
  • Demonstrated expert skills delivering a Premier Customer Experience, including investigating, resolving and following up on customer inquiries and issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships within Exelon as well as with external stakeholders such as solar developers, policy makers, industry organizations and community leaders.
  • Ability and willingness to adhere to applicable safety regulations and policies, and to demonstrate a commitment to safety.
  • Must successfully pass a Criminal History Background Check which consists of a 7-year criminal records check for felony convictions, if applicable

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Expert Knowledge of utility distribution grid interconnections, net metering, renewable energy
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory policies affecting DER interconnection and net metering to ensure compliance with Regulatory rulings.
  • Expert skills identifying trends/metrics to evaluate and manage workload in addition to recommending best practices for team's policies and procedures.
  • Expert skills using PC-based word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations, Connect The Grid and data visualization tools (PowerBI)
  • Project management experience preferred as position will be required to lead projects and EU Initiatives; PMP Certification a plus
