Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role PurposeFocus will be the development of robust process machine systems that provide significant competitive advantage to Corning's businesses, and / or enable new products and product lines (prototype and production capable machines). This position will support some or all of Corning Incorporated's divisions.
The individual will be a member of cross-functional project teams, on early-stage innovation projects, through concept generation, technology development, detail design/build, and installation.
Key Responsibilities- Work with other project team members on solving difficult mechanical engineering related problems, understanding project related issues, and general process understanding
- Support cross-functional project teams from concept generation, technology development, detail design, build, and start-up
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, progress updates, and presentations
- Update drawings, schematics, and equipment documentation as systems evolve
- Integrate commercially available technologies and processes and effectively leverage external machine builders and system integrators
- Interface with internal R&D, Division Engineering, and manufacturing customers
- Follow safe work practices during design, installation, testing, and troubleshooting
Must be available for significant travel, primarily domestic, to multiple locations to support business needs. International travel could be required as well.
Required Education - BS Mechanical, Electrical or other Engineering discipline (B.S. minimum) with 3+ years of engineering experience preferred
- Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks
- Working knowledge of basic electrical engineering principles
- Exposure to mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively on a team in a matrixed environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to explain technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Technical curiosity and willingness to learn

This position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $83,134.00 - $114,310.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
