General Summary of Job ResponsibilitiesThe Senior Construction Manager is responsible for the leadership, management, administration and execution of the physical construction phase of the project. The incumbent may have one or more assigned projects at one or more locations and will typically manage complex and large in scope Utility Construction Projects. Utilize appropriate metrics to monitor and control safety, scope, cost, quality and schedule performance. Assigned projects will vary in project scope complexity from the routine/repetitive, large-scale construction projects to complex, large-scale portfolio/retro-fit projects and will vary across our Utility Portfolio (Fossil Generation, Renewables, Gas Compression, Gas Storage Gas Distribution and Transmission, Electric Transmission & Distribution and Facilities).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Work with the Project Management Team to lead and develop request for proposals. Including assisting with scope, contract, & specifications development, leading in developing a construction execution plan including site logistic planning, providing feedback on appropriate number of skilled craft through contracted organizations as well as technical staff to serve in supporting roles, developing special field guidelines for work considered to be atypical or infrequently performed, creating level one, two and three schedules, assist in developing budgetary cost, executing the bid process, assisting in post bid interview and awarding projects
- Utilize complex metrics to monitor and control safety, scope, cost, quality, and schedule performance
- Assist design engineering concerning the application and limitations of construction methodologies and equipment. Perform constructability reviews of 30%, 60%, & 90% drawings
- Attend Project and/or Plant meetings serving as the Single Point of Contact for EPM with Owners) and Internal stakeholders (Operations, Engineering, ETC) at the location of project execution
- Drive contractor relationships at the project site; interface between the contractors and proactively facilitate resolution of conflicts. Understand the working agreements and contracts that they are contracted under
- Lead and guide the field effort with expertise and experienced counsel in multiple construction disciplines; ensure contractors utilize and schedule equipment, personnel, and tools efficiently to support the construction effort. Lead, develop and maintain good working relationships with Local Building trades
- Provide leadership to ensure that contractors work safely according to site/project specific safety plans, understand changing conditions, comply with all quality requirements, building to plans and specifications, and execute the work in accordance with the approved project schedule. Documenting this in the Daily Field Report
- Other duties as assigned or may be necessary
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities- Ability to follow union contract as it is related to managing projects
- Excellent communication skills, able to work with all stakeholders and experienced in problems solving
- Familiar with General Construction Means and Methods, Contract Delivery Methodologies, CSI Contracts & Specifications, and Project Information Management Systems (PIMS)
- Knowledge of NDT/NDE practices and how they apply to Utility Construction
- Knowledge of OSHA/MIOSHA Industry safety standards
- Knowledge OSHA 1926/MIOSHA Construction Safety Standards and applying to the construction at hand, knowing the impact they have on the construction project- Example preventing over/under situations
- Understanding of applicable building codes, permits, inspections
- Understanding of contract documents for deliverables throughout the project lifecycle. Drawings, Specifications, Submittals, Testing, Warranties, Guarantees, etc.
- Understanding of the Building Trade Jurisdiction, skilled trade classifications, and general knowledge of labor relation "good practices"
Education/Experience- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management/Engineering with 4 years of experience with Consumers Energy or similar standards and specifications; Safety Manuals, C&FP, Material Specifications, Field Inspectors Manual
