Full Job Description
Construction Manager in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Texas area to support complex renovation and equipment replacement projects within Central Utility Plants (CUPs). This role will involve executing work in active, mission-critical environments, with an emphasis on minimizing disruption to ongoing operations.

We are seeking a dynamic leader with deep experience executing projects in operational, mission-critical environments, ensuring continuity of service while delivering high-quality results. Experience within higher education campus environments is highly desirable. This position is full time on-site in Denton Texas.

Responsibilities:
  • Advocate for and embrace Ameresco's "Culture of Safety", ensuring strict adherence to all safety policies, especially within energized and operational utility environments.
  • Oversee daily on-site construction personnel and activities for the installation of a new modular central utility plant (chillers, cooling towers, pumps and electrical systems).
  • A portion of the work will impact a fully operational CUP, maintaining continuous service to critical campus and facility infrastructure.
  • Coordinate closely with engineers, commissioning agents, and facility operators to ensure constructability, system integration, and operational continuity.
  • Plan and manage complex shutdowns, tie-ins, and phasing strategies, ensuring minimal disruption to campus or facility operations.
  • Conduct regular site walks to monitor progress, workmanship, system installation quality, and compliance with project specifications.
  • Lead subcontractor coordination, including sequencing of mechanical, electrical, controls, and specialty trades.
  • Review and validate subcontractor scopes, bids, and change requests with emphasis on high-value mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for clients, including facility directors, plant managers, and campus stakeholders.
  • Provide detailed progress updates including look-ahead schedules, outage plans, and risk logs to the Senior Project Manager and client.
  • Coordinate equipment deliveries, rigging plans, crane operations, and site logistics associated with large utility equipment replacement.
  • Identify and mitigate schedule and operational risks, particularly those impacting ongoing plant operations.
  • Align construction sequencing with procurement and long-lead equipment delivery timelines.
  • Manage budget tracking, cost forecasting, and change management.
  • Review subcontractor invoices, material receipts, and labor reports for accuracy.
  • Ensure quality control processes including functional testing, inspections, punch lists, and system turnover documentation are completed and accurate.
  • Support start-up, commissioning, and system integration activities in coordination with engineering and operations teams.
  • Ensure all closeout documentation, including as-builts, O&M manuals, and warranties, are complete and accurate.
  • Ensure a smooth transition of systems to facility operations and maintenance teams.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience managing industrial, institutional, or utility infrastructure construction projects, with a strong emphasis on central utility plants or similar facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience managing equipment replacement and retrofit projects involving major mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Strong ability to interpret P&IDs, one-line diagrams, equipment submittals, shop drawings, and specifications.
  • Deep understanding of construction methods, system tie-ins, commissioning processes, and utility infrastructure best practices.


Additional Qualifications:
  • Professional certification(s) such as PMP, CEM, CMVP, or LEED AP.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple subcontractors in high-risk, operational environments.
  • Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, PlanGrid) and Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, and Project.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex operational constraints.
  • Experience working in higher education campus environments, including coordination with campus stakeholders and phased construction in active facilities.
  • Demonstrated success managing projects in mission-critical or continuously operating facilities.
  • OSHA 30 certification or more safety training.
