Full Job Description
Information System Security Engineer (ISSE) Level III-aligned with the DoD 8570/8140 IASAE Level III (Information Assurance System Architecture and Engineering) to provide expert-level security engineering, design, and architecture support for complex, critical Department of War networks and information systems. Serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), this role integrates security principles throughout the entire system lifecycle to protect highly sensitive systems against sophisticated threats.

Responsibilities:

Systematically integrates security functional requirements into system acquisition, engineering, and development phases.

Hardens application interfaces, data repositories, and cloud environments using systems engineering methodologies.

Prepares, reviews, and maintains system security documentation under the Risk Management Framework (RMF), including SSPs, SAPs, SARs, and POA&Ms.

Supports system certification activities to secure and maintain an Interim Authority to Test (IATT) and Authority to Operate (ATO). Acts as the primary technical security advisor/SME to Government stakeholders, program managers, and system engineering teams.

Leads technical walkthroughs, security reviews, and participates in intelligence-community or industry-based technical working groups.

Conducts threat modeling, vulnerability assessments, and analyzes security logs to proactively harden defenses against adversaries.

Provides technical expertise to contain and mitigate real or potential system security incidents.

Designs and architects robust end-to-end security solutions for networks, databases, and enterprise systems.

Incorporates Zero Trust principles, boundary protection, firewalls, and cryptographic controls to safeguard critical warfighting infrastructure.

Requirements
• Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in system engineering, information assurance, or cybersecurity
• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Security, System Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Four years of direct ISSE experience may be substituted for a degree
• Must meet IASAE Level III baseline qualifications requirements
• Security+, CASP+ or CISSP preferred
• Security Clearance: Secret
