Roles and Responsibilities:

As a Principal Member of Technical Staff (PMTS) on the FKP team, you will drive the technical direction for designing and implementing software that manages Kubernetes clusters at massive scale. You will lead the creation of complex design documents, present architectural strategy to senior technical and cross-functional audiences, and guide the implementation of solutions across the team. You will play a key role in evaluating and integrating open source technologies into the FKP software stack, and set the technical bar for how these integrations are done.

We are developing the next-gen architecture for FKP, and as a PMTS you will be a primary architect of this transformation. You will design and implement distributed systems, control planes, and APIs that operate at planet scale, orchestrating and managing clusters and resources across thousands of clusters and all substrates. You will identify architectural gaps, propose and drive solutions, and mentor other engineers as they build against your designs.

Desired Skills and Experience:

Deep expertise in the following programming languages or equivalents:

Golang
Bash (working shell knowledge required)

Deep, hands-on experience with the following technologies:

8+ years experience with distributed systems, APIs, Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration at scale
5+ years experience with AWS and/or GCP services
Strong experience with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code practices
CI/CD services, e.g. Jenkins, Argo, Spinnaker
Observability tools, e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, ElasticSearch, Argus
Track record of architecting and operating systems at planet scale, with demonstrated ownership of major design decisions

General Skills:

Proven experience designing and operating APIs and async workflows at scale
Deep experience with infrastructure as code
AI proficiency, including applying AI tools to accelerate design, development, and operations
Strong grasp of DevOps principles and how to instill them across a team
Demonstrated ability to lead multiple concurrent initiatives, set technical priorities, and adapt plans as needs shift
Excellent technical leadership, mentorship, and communication skills, with the ability to influence architecture decisions across teams and drive consensus among senior stakeholders

Team Description:

Are you passionate about operating infrastructure at massive scale and being part of the team that builds the backbone of cloud services? Do you enjoy working with Kubernetes, distributed microservices, and large-scale automation? This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Falcon Kubernetes Platform (FKP), and to help set its technical direction as a Principal engineer.

FKP provides Kubernetes platform-as-a-service to engineering teams across Salesforce who power major products such as Sales, Service, Commerce, Mulesoft, and Tableau. Our Kubernetes footprint is expanding by thousands of clusters and to new substrates. We are also building the next-gen FKP architecture, and as a PMTS you will be an instrumental voice shaping that transformation. You will work on open source technologies like Kubernetes, Terraform, Argo, and Spinnaker, with the opportunity to contribute back and help shape the future of these technologies at an industry level.

We operate one of the largest Kubernetes fleets in the industry. Our mission is to empower service owners to focus on innovation while FKP delivers secure, reliable, cost-efficient infrastructure that underpins the entire Hyperforce strategy.
