Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.
  • Experience designing and developing relational databases, database internals, query processing and query optimization.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Experience with Apache Iceberg or Apache Spark.
  • Understanding of PostgreSQL architecture and database internals.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

Our mission is to pioneer next-generation query processing capabilities for AlloyDB that seamlessly bridge operational databases and analytics. We are dedicated to maximizing performance across hybrid workloads by building a Postgres-compatible SQL execution environment. Our engineering efforts focus on intelligent query planning that dynamically balances row-based and column-oriented execution.We leverage embedded machine learning to automate data format categorization so customers experience peak database performance without manual tuning. Through rigorous benchmarking and architectural innovation, we ensure our processing layer handles the most demanding enterprise workloads. Ultimately, we empower data developers to extract immediate, actionable insights while maintaining complete transactional integrity.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $207,000-$300,000 bonus equity benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
  • Triage, debug, and resolve complex and escalated query processing issues. Drive performance benchmarking and query execution optimization.
  • Build, manage, and mentor a team of software engineers. Set the standard for engineering excellence by performing rigorous code reviews and enforcing best practices for efficiency, accuracy, and testability.
  • Partner with stakeholders to define technical roadmaps. Contribute to and oversee architectural documentation, adapting technical strategies based on product updates and user feedback.
  • Write critical-path code for high-performance database internals and the AlloyDB query engine.
  • Lead system design, driving the architectural direction for large-scale distributed systems and transactional consistency.
