Android microXR is the new platform for smart AI glasses. The platform is designed to provide seamless, ambient AR experiences by leveraging Google's exceptional AI. Our outlook is to create an always-connected thin client that intelligently offloads workloads to a smartphone to maximize battery life. As we build this future, establishing a reliable, high-speed wireless link is the foundation for our platform's success.
The microXR connectivity team is dedicated to build reliable connection between glasses and phone through Bluetooth and WiFi. We are looking for connectivity engineers to help us define our long-term strategy and lead the implementation of high-performance wireless solutions. In this role, you will work across a unique SOC architecture that integrates Android with a Microcontroller Unit (MCU) and solve technical challenges across the stack.

Google's XR team is at the forefront of the next major leap - the convergence of AI and XR. This is more than just new devices - it's about reimagining how we interact with the world around us. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Responsibilities
  • Take on some of the most critical and ambiguous problems surrounding connectivity, including the development of advanced pairing methods for glasses and phones to support AI, managing various wireless transports, and judiciously selecting the optimal communication medium depending on the user experience being exercised.
  • Partner with WearOS, Android Auto, and Android Better Together to shape future iterations of the Android platform.
  • Collaborate with our key stakeholders, glasses OEMs, Product Managers, and Technical Program Managers to drive the best decisions, coordinate efforts, and align expectations.
