Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Software Engineer II position will be part of our IGEN division. This role designs, develops, tests, and maintains WinForms applications and will be a key contributor to our upcoming modernization project, moving to modern cloud applications on Microsoft Azure, working as part of an agile scrum team. This role works in close partnership with the Product Owner, embedded QA, and engineering peers to translate product direction into well-engineered, secure, production-ready software. Our team operates with AI-assisted development capabilities as a standard part of the discipline — leveraging GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, and emerging agentic development tooling to deliver higher-quality work at greater velocity. As part of the larger modernization effort, this role builds within the broader Microsoft and Azure ecosystem with a continuous-improvement mindset, contributing to engineering standards, code quality, and the team's collective ability to deliver against business outcomes.

This role will be based in Appleton, WI with a hybrid schedule (Monday - Thursday on-site and Friday's remote as business needs allow).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Designs, develops, tests, and deploys Winforms applications and future cloud-native applications and services on Microsoft Azure using modern .NET (C#, ASP.NET Core), TypeScript / JavaScript, and supporting frameworks.

  • Uses AI development assistants — GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, Claude, and emerging agent-based tooling — as a standard part of daily engineering practice. Applies sound judgment in reviewing, validating, and securing AI-generated output.
  • Applies secure coding practices and contributes to the team's SOC 2 / SecDevOps posture — including input validation, secrets handling, dependency hygiene, and adherence to OWASP guidance.
  • Participates in code review as both author and reviewer. Provides constructive feedback, learns from peers, and helps maintain a consistent quality bar across the codebase.
  • Contributes to CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code (Bicep / Terraform), and automated testing — including unit, integration, and contract tests — to ensure code is reliably built, validated, and deployed.
  • Partners with the Product Owner to refine stories, surface technical considerations early, and ensure acceptance criteria are clear before work enters the sprint.
  • Maintains and improves existing applications through performance tuning, refactoring, observability instrumentation, and technical-debt reduction.
  • Documents code, design decisions, and operational runbooks at a level that allows peers and future engineers to understand and extend the work.
  • Continuously develops professionally — particularly in AI-assisted development, agentic workflows, and emerging Microsoft and Azure platform capabilities. Stays current as the boundary between human and agent work continues to evolve.
