Software Engineer II - Data Management

Job Description

Overview

As a Software Engineer on CoStar Group’s Data Management team, you will play a critical role in expanding and enhancing the data platform that powers the company’s flagship brands, including CoStar Suite, LoopNet, and Homes.com. Success in this role requires developing a deep understanding of the business and the data that drives it, enabling you to build scalable solutions that deliver exceptional data quality. You will own the ingestion of new data into the platform, ensuring it is accurate, reliable, and seamlessly integrated, while also improving and correcting existing data through robust, system-driven approaches rather than one-off fixes. Working across the full data lifecycle, you will diagnose issues end-to-end, tracing user-reported problems through complex pipelines to identify root causes and implement lasting solutions that strengthen the integrity and value of CoStar’s data products.

CoStar is investing heavily in artificial intelligence to accelerate software delivery, improve platform observability, automate research and business workflows, enhance product experiences through intelligent agents and skills, and improve data quality across enterprise systems. Successful candidates will demonstrate a willingness to learn, adopt, and apply AI technologies responsibly to solve complex business and engineering challenges.

This position is located in Richmond, VA and the work schedule will be 4 days onsite with 1 day remote.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain large-scale, distributed, API-driven systems that support tens of thousands of users across CoStar Group brands.
  • Develop and integrate AI-powered solutions, agents, and intelligent workflows that enhance customer experiences, platform intelligence, and business operations.
  • Leverage AI and telemetry to improve monitoring, observability, diagnostics, anomaly detection, and system reliability while reducing operational risk.
  • Build intelligent automation capabilities that streamline research, improve information discovery, and increase efficiency across teams.
  • Partner with Product, Research, and Data teams to identify and deliver high-impact AI-driven opportunities that improve decision-making and create business value.
  • Write robust, scalable, and maintainable code using technologies such as C#, .NET, SQL Server, AWS, and React, while contributing to software design standards, code reviews, and the adoption of emerging technologies.
  • Build intelligent automation solutions that streamline research workflows, improve information discovery, and increase operational efficiency across business functions.
  • Continually evaluate emerging technologies to identify opportunities, trends, and best practices that can be leveraged to strength CoStar’s technology platform and develop practices.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited, not-for-profit, in-person university or college.
  • 4+ years of full-stack software development experience using C#, .NET, React, JavaScript, and relational databases (SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL).
  • Experience designing and building large-scale distributed, service-oriented applications.
  • Experience with database design, SQL development, performance tuning, and data modeling.
  • Familiarity with AI development tools, LLMs, prompt engineering, or agent-based architectures.
  • Experience with monitoring, telemetry, observability, and automated diagnostics platforms.
  • Understanding of data quality principles, data governance, and data-centric application design.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud services, including DynamoDB, S3, Lambda, or similar technologies.
  • Experience implementing AI agents, intelligent search solutions, workflow automation platforms, or other generative AI-powered applications.
  • Experience deploying LLM or machine learning solutions into production using platforms such as Azure AI Foundry, AWS Bedrock, Azure ML, or SageMaker.
  • Strong expertise with database design, SQL development, performance tuning, and data modeling.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver pragmatic, scalable, and maintainable solutions in a fast-paced environment.
