Software Engineer FullstackPreferred Location: Ottawa
Reports to: CTO
Type: Full-Time
The RoleYou will drive development across platform layers - from backend ingestion and data processing to frontend visualization and embedded integrations - working closely with hardware and embedded system teams. This role centers on designing, testing, and operating resilient telemetry and interface systems for constrained, forward-deployed environments.
What You'll Do- Design and implement backend services and APIs that ingest, normalize, and serve telemetry and mission data.
- Build frontend interfaces and dashboards that surface critical system state and analytics for operators.
- Integrate software with sensors, embedded systems, and edge compute nodes; ensure robust data flows and fault-tolerant behaviour.
- Write and maintain automated tests, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment tooling to ensure repeatable, auditable releases.
- Optimize data storage and query patterns (SQL/NoSQL) for low-latency access and efficient telemetry archival.
- Instrument observability and alerting (logs, metrics, traces) to support on-call and field diagnostics.
- Collaborate with embedded systems, and mechanical engineers to define interfaces and validate end-to-end performance.
- Support field deployments and troubleshooting (travel to sites as required); incorporate field feedback into rapid iterations.
- Mentor peers and contribute to engineering best practices, code reviews, and technical design docs.
What You'll Bring- Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Senior candidates: 5+ years building production backend/frontend systems; Mid candidates: 2-4 years. We're hiring at both levels.
- Strong production experience in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript; comfort writing clean, testable code.
- Experience with SQL and relational data modeling; familiarity with Go and/or C++ is a strong advantage.
- Practical experience with web frameworks and libraries (Flask or similar), dashboarding/visualization tools, and testing frameworks (PyTest, etc.).
- Experience with one or more of: Android, ATAK/TAK plugin development, AWS services (ECS, EKS, Lambda, S3).
- Proficiency with Git, JSON/YAML config, containerization, and CI/CD tooling.
- Proven ability to integrate with hardware or work closely with embedded teams (sensor data, bandwidth-constrained links).
- Comfortable operating in forward-deployed/field environments: pragmatic, low-ego problem-solver who can debug under pressure and iterate quickly.
- Eligibility for Canadian security clearance preferred; Canadian citizenship an asset.
No defence background required.
We've hired people who didn't tick every box. If this is the work you want to do, please apply anyway.
