Full Job Description
The Role

As a Software Development Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in developing our endpoint security solution for macOS. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, delivering outcomes primarily by directing agentic AI development tools and applying the engineering judgement to steer, challenge and rigorously review what they produce. This is an exceptional opportunity to work at the leading edge of endpoint security, on software that protects Mac users across thousands of organisations.

What You'll Do
  • Design, build and maintain the macOS client at the heart of our endpoint security solution - code that must stay fast, resilient and unobtrusive on every user's Mac
  • Help shape the architecture of new features and services, providing technical direction on increasingly complex projects
  • Review functional and technical requirements to identify gaps, and limitations, propose simplifications and communicate ideas effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Take accountability for code quality - whether produced by agentic AI tools or fellow engineers - through rigorous code review and pull-request feedback, ensuring unit testing and departmental guidelines are consistently met. Where no formal guidelines exist, work with peers to formulate and enforce such guidelines.
  • Develop and improve build, deployment and test automation within your team.
  • Help identify, prioritize and resolve technical debt within your team.
  • Collaborate with your team to ensure work items are well defined and understood, and that value is delivered with quality on every sprint.
  • Investigate and resolve customer issues escalated to engineering, and feed what you learn back into the product.
  • Track emerging macOS and security technologies and put forward improvements to the team's tools and development processes.
  • Become the go-to development expert for at least one area of the product, deepening that expertise over time.

What You'll Bring

  • A degree in a software engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • A strong software engineering background, with significant hands-on development experience and specialist depth in at least one technical area.
  • Hands-on macOS platform development, with proficiency in Swift, Objective-C and/or C++, and experience building systems-level or endpoint security software.
  • Hands-on experience with macOS, including management and development of launch daemons and launch agents, unified logging, development of XPC components.
  • Demonstrable, hands-on experience directing agentic AI development tools such as Claude Code - framing problems well, challenging weak output, and critically reviewing generated code for correctness, security and maintainability.
  • Experience of formal software development methodologies.
  • At least 2 years' commercial software engineering experience for the Software Development Engineer level; typically, 5 or more years, including demonstrable technical leadership, for the Senior Software Development Engineer level.

Nice To Have

  • Knowledge and experience working with Apple's authorization system
  • Experience working with the sudo plugin framework.
  • Knowledge of macOS kernel and the Mandatory Access Control Framework (MACF)
  • Domain or product expertise in an area relevant to the role - or a demonstrated ability to build that expertise quickly.
  • Relevant professional qualifications or certifications.

Who You Are
  • Proactively learns new technologies and quickly builds the skills the role requires.
  • Mentors other team members on the workings of the product under development.
  • Adapts well to change and thrives in multi-disciplinary teams that form around a specific goal, maintaining performance and supporting others as priorities shift.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve development activities, reducing waste and increasing efficiency.
  • Actively shares knowledge with colleagues inside and outside the team.
  • Communicates clearly, verbally and in writing, tailoring the message to different audiences and stakeholders.
