Full Job Description
Are you passionate about building software that operates at massive scale and directly impacts millions of customers? As a Software Development Engineer II at Amazon, you will design, develop, and deliver features that solve real problems and create meaningful value. You will work across the full software development lifecycle - from understanding customer needs to deploying and operating production systems. This role offers the opportunity to tackle complex technical challenges, contribute to high-quality codebases, and collaborate with talented engineers who care deeply about building the right solutions. If you are a self-starter who thrives on turning ambiguous problems into clean, maintainable designs, we want to hear from you.

Key job responsibilities

- Design and implement software solutions across the full development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, system design, coding, testing, deployment, and operational support.

- Write high-quality, maintainable code and actively participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to teammates and coaching others on best practices.

- Identify root causes of operational issues and drive permanent fixes, continuously improving system reliability and your team's operational processes.

- Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and cross-functional peers to understand business context and ensure your solutions deliver the right outcomes.

- Evaluate and integrate new tools and approaches - including generative AI capabilities - to improve productivity, code quality, and team workflows.

A day in the life

You might start by reviewing a design document for an upcoming feature, providing feedback that strengthens the architecture before implementation begins. Later, you pair with a teammate on a tricky code change, then shift to investigating an operational metric that looks off. You document your findings, propose a fix, and discuss tradeoffs with your team. Throughout, you balance building new capabilities with improving what already exists, keeping the customer experience front and center.

About the team

Our team is focused on building reliable, scalable software that our customers depend on every day. We value collaboration, clear communication, and a genuine commitment to quality. We invest in each other's growth through mentorship, knowledge sharing, and thoughtful code reviews. As we look ahead, we are excited about expanding our technical capabilities and tackling new challenges that push us to innovate. If you want to make a meaningful impact alongside engineers who hold themselves to a high bar, this is the team for you.
