We are seeking a Software Development Engineer who can think big, drive technical strategy, and simplify solutions to complex problems, all while ensuring our customers continue to have the best experience possible!
A successful Software Development Engineer III joining the team will be an innovator, building solutions and working closely with Amazon's largest and most demanding government customers to address their specific needs across a suite of Frontier AI services in GovCloud and isolated environments. They will own the technical direction for key initiatives, mentor junior engineers, drive the resolution of complex technical issues, and work diligently to improve the customer experience.
This position requires that the candidate selected must currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance. The position further requires that, after start, the selected candidate obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph or commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.

A day in the life
As a Software Development Engineer III in Frontier ADC, you will build innovative solutions, expand services into GovCloud and isolated regions, and improve our operations to provide resiliency and the best experience for our customers. You own technical strategy and architectural decisions within the team and with partner teams and make data-driven decisions. Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate leadership on strong Bias for Action, Invent and Simplify, Insist on the Highest Standards, and Deliver Results.
You will develop, build, and operate AWS Frontier AI services that enable customers to leverage generative AI and agentic capabilities in secure environments. Our engineering teams support services running in GovCloud and isolated regions, creating unique engineering challenges and opportunities for innovation. The Frontier ADC team is responsible for diving deep to resolve operational challenges, innovating to automate operational tasks, building solutions for our customers, supporting execution of various security campaigns (blocked software, host patching), and parity programs.
As a Software Development Engineer III you will:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree, or CSSLP (Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional)
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret with SCI eligibility or above
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
