Job DetailsDivision: Nucor Business TechnologyLocation: Dallas, TX, United StatesOther Available Locations: N/ABasic Job Functions:Nucor Business Technology (NBT) is building the next generation of manufacturing software for Nucor's steel operations - and we're looking for a
Software Architect to set the technical direction for how we design, build, and ship it. This is a hands-on architect role for an engineer who operates at the enterprise level: someone who owns solution design, solution architecture, and software development end to end, and raises all three to the bar the best technology companies are setting right now.
You'll lead the architecture of Nucor's manufacturing execution systems (MES) and their modernization alongside our ERP landscape - and the data and integration fabric that ties the mills to the enterprise. You'll define the patterns, standards, and guardrails the team builds against, make the build-versus-buy and technology-selection calls, and partner closely with mill-embedded engineers, product, and enterprise stakeholders to turn real operational complexity into reliable, high-quality systems.
Just as important: you'll make AI-native development the way NBT builds. We expect our architects to architect AI into our products - retrieval-augmented generation, agentic systems, and evaluation-driven delivery - and to use AI and agentic tooling to accelerate the entire software lifecycle. You'll bring the practices leading engineering organizations use today and make them how we work.
This is not a maintenance role, and it is not an ivory-tower role. You will architect and build, and you will multiply the engineers around you. You'll be shaping how Nucor manufactures steel for decades to come. This is a full-time, permanent position based at the NBT office in Dallas, TX.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US (Nucor Business Technology (NBT) will not sponsor the need for a visa now or in the future).Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

- Deep proficiency in at least one modern language (Python, C#, or TypeScript/JavaScript), with the breadth to review across several
- Proven solution and software architecture: distributed systems, integration and event-driven design, API design, data modeling, and sound technology-selection and build-vs-buy decisions
- Deep, hands-on AI and LLM capability - both architecting AI-native systems (retrieval-augmented generation, agent frameworks, evaluation-driven development, LLMOps) and using AI/agentic tooling to accelerate the full software development lifecycle
- Experience designing integration across system boundaries via APIs and events
- Cloud architecture experience (Azure preferred)
- Demonstrated track record of taking systems from architecture through delivery, setting engineering standards, and elevating teams - leading through influence, mentoring, and example
Preferred Qualifications:- Enterprise integration experience across MES, ERP, and data platforms (via APIs and events)
- Prior ERP (SAP, Oracle E-Business Suite, or S/4HANA) and/or MES implementation experience - preferred, not a prerequisite

- Manufacturing or industrial domain knowledge
- Experience leading large-scale legacy modernization or platform migration
- Track record establishing AI-native engineering practices or developer-productivity platforms (evaluation harnesses, LLMOps, agentic developer tooling)
