Job Description

The Software and Controls Engineer will play a crucial role in our Rig Systems business group, specifically within the Aftermarket segment. This position offers an opportunity to work on diverse project support assignments, focusing on programming and commissioning drilling equipment, control systems. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to our team, ensuring the smooth implementation and execution of NOV control systems and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop control systems software, ensuring equipment functionality and performance.
  • Assist in creating, developing, and maintaining comprehensive documentation for commissioning and software processes.
  • Provide field support, troubleshooting, and problem diagnostics for NOV control systems, offering timely solutions.
  • Train customers and field service technicians, ensuring a thorough understanding of equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Generate clear and concise reports on software verification and testing, both during development and in the field.
  • Modify existing software under engineering guidelines, ensuring efficient and effective modifications.
  • Utilize PLC programming skills to generate organized, structured, and maintainable code, with a preference for Siemens Programming environment.
  • Create HMI screens for complex machinery, providing effective troubleshooting feedback, with a preference for Wonderware Intouch, Proficy iFix, and Siemens FactoryLink.
  • Read and understand electrical schematics, wiring, and logic diagrams, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of equipment design.
  • Actively participate in project teams, providing cost estimates, schedules, and controls project documentation.


Qualifications

  • A degree in Engineering is preferred, but equivalent work experience of 3+ years will also be considered.
  • Ability to obtain necessary certifications and comply with travel requirements to domestic and overseas rig and shipyards, both land-based and offshore.
  • Strong customer focus, both internal and external, with a collaborative and candid approach to problem-solving.
  • Effective negotiation skills, firm yet diplomatic, with a willingness to support colleagues and remove roadblocks.
  • Excellent time management skills, able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, even with incomplete information.
  • Confident and professional representation of the company, both in person and in writing, with a focus on good judgment.
  • Engineering degree or equivalent work experience in a related field.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, SCADA HMI programming, and the ability to read electrical schematics.
  • Experience in generating code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable.
  • Strong communication skills to interface with customers, vendors, and internal teams.
