Full Job Description
SLM Engineer
Location: Austin, TX
About this opportunity:
As one of Ericsson's highest-performing Silicon teams, we are chartered with defining and delivering Design For eXcellence (DFX), Silicon Lifecycle Management (SLM) and Reliability Availability Serviceability (RAS) capabilities that keep 5G Radio and Baseband silicon reliable from first power-on through years of in-field operation.
Here, you won't be siloed. Our scope runs end-to-end, covering architecture, design, production test, post-silicon bring-up, and in-field monitoring, diagnosis, and repair. We partner closely with System, Firmware, Baseband, and Radio teams on multi-ASIC products where hardware and software must work as one.
We treat AI as a first-class counterpart on the team. It acts as an engine that accelerates our daily workflows, and a research enabler that unlocks the next generation of DFX, SLM, and RAS methodology. If you want to help set the direction of an emerging field, collaborate with experienced mentors across disciplines, and see your ideas ship inside silicon that powers mission-critical networks, this is the team for you.
What you will do:
• Drive Silicon Reliability: Contribute to DFX, SLM and RAS features across the silicon lifecycle, from architecture and design, through production test and post-silicon bring-up, to in-field monitoring, diagnosis and repair.
• Apply Advanced AI: Build and apply AI and machine learning, from classical ML to modern LLM and agentic approaches, to automate engineering workflows, accelerate debug and triage, and extract insight from silicon and system telemetry.
• Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Collaborate across Silicon, Systems, Firmware, Baseband, and Radio teams on cross-domain initiatives where hardware and software must operate seamlessly together.
• Innovate Methodology: Help introduce next-generation DFX, SLM, and RAS methodology with AI as a differentiator. This includes prototyping new ideas, evaluating them on real data, and hardening the ones that work into production use.
• Foster Engineering Excellence: Document your work, communicate results clearly, and contribute to the team's culture of technical rigor and shared learning.
Long Description
The skills you bring:
• Bachelors, Masters or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
• Strong programming fundamentals, with proficiency in Python. Working knowledge of C or C++ is a plus.
• Comfort in a Linux environment and with version control systems such as git.
• Clear problem-solving ability and strong written and spoken technical communication.
• Demonstrated curiosity and a builder mindset in AI and machine learning, proven through coursework, research, projects, or hands-on work in classical ML, deep learning, or LLM and agent-based tooling.
Eagerness to build deep technical expertise in one or more of the following domains:
Silicon / DFT
• Digital logic design fundamentals and exposure to SystemVerilog.
• Familiarity with DFT concepts such as scan, ATPG, MBIST, and JTAG or IJTAG.
• Scripting, awareness of EDA flows, or coursework and projects in VLSI and computer architecture.
Systems / Firmware
• Embedded systems, RTOS or bare-metal firmware development, and comfort programming close to hardware in C.
• Experience with telemetry, data pipelines, or system monitoring.
• Exposure to wireless, RF or networking systems, or hands-on work with SoCs, FPGAs, or edge-compute platforms.
Strong pluses
• An internship or research engagement at a silicon, systems, wireless, or embedded company.
• Post-silicon lab, board bring-up, or production-test exposure.
• AI or ML work that has been deployed on real hardware or run against real-world data, beyond coursework.
• Familiarity with EDA tools or DFT methodology in any toolchain.
• PhD-level research in DFX, SLM, RAS, silicon telemetry, post-silicon analytics, or AI applied to EDA or silicon engineering.
