About the roleThe Nuclear Company is seeking a
Siting Engineer to serve as the technical owner of a site across its full development life cycle. This role works alongside the Origination group during screening and qualification of candidate sites, then takes the formal handoff of land and the site technical baseline at the FEL 0 admission gate and carries the site through characterization, licensing, and design integration (FEL 1-3) to readiness for construction.
You are the continuity of site knowledge across the Origination/Development boundary: the person who ensures that what was promised at admission is what gets characterized, licensed, and ultimately built. The ideal candidate combines hands-on site characterization experience with working fluency in
NRC siting regulations and the discipline to produce licensing-grade documentation inside a stage-gate framework.
ResponsibilitiesOrigination Support & FEL 0 Handoff- Provide technical siting support to the Origination group during screening: fatal-flaw assessments, hazard standoff analyses (NRC Regulatory Guide 1.91), buildable-area and cooling water evaluations, and population/exclusion criteria checks (10 CFR Part 100, Regulatory Guide 4.7)
- Validate candidate site packages against the FEL 0 Entry Boundary Conditions and confirm the technical basis for admission decisions
- Receive the formal handoff of land control, geospatial baseline, and site technical data at FEL 0 admission, and own that baseline through all subsequent phases
Site Characterization (FEL 1-3)- Scope, procure, and manage geotechnical, geological, seismological, hydrological, and ecological investigation programs
- Stand up and operate site meteorological monitoring programs (Regulatory Guide 1.23) meeting ESP/COL data quality and duration requirements
- Maintain the site GIS datasets, land control mapping, and survey baseline; manage characterization consultants and field subcontractors
Licensing & Environmental Support- Prepare site-related portions of ESP and COL applications under 10 CFR Part 52, including SSAR/FSAR Chapter 2 inputs, consistent with NUREG-0800 and NUREG-1555
- Provide siting inputs to Environmental Reports and support NRC pre-application engagement, audits, and RAI responses on site matters
- Reconcile site characteristics against the plant site parameter envelope and manage departures and open items to closure
Construction Transition- Translate the characterized site into construction readiness: early site works permitting, site preparation and excavation input packages, geotechnical baseline reports for constructors
- Support constructability reviews and remain the site technical authority through mobilization, providing site data continuity for construction and ITAAC-relevant verification
AI & Technology- Leverage AI-powered tools, GIS platforms, and data analytics to accelerate characterization planning, data review, and decision-making
- Maintain siting dashboards and databases within NOS to track characterization progress, land confidence, and gate readiness
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Nuclear Engineering, or related discipline (Master's preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in power plant or large industrial facility siting, site characterization, or site licensing/environmental work
- Working knowledge of 10 CFR Parts 50, 52, and 100, and NRC Regulatory Guides 7, 1.91, and 1.23
- Hands-on experience scoping or executing field investigation programs (geotechnical, hydrological, meteorological, or seismic)
- Strong technical writing skills with experience producing licensing-grade or investor-grade documentation
- Ability to travel regularly to project sites
Preferred Qualifications- Direct experience with ESP or COL applications, Environmental Reports, or SSAR/FSAR Chapter 2 development
- Familiarity with large light-water reactor site parameter envelopes (e.g., AP1000)
- Experience carrying a site into construction: early site works, excavation support, or geotechnical baseline reporting
- Knowledge of probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) and geologic characterization methodologies
- GIS proficiency (ArcGIS or equivalent) and experience with geospatial land control analysis
- Experience working in a stage-gate (FEL) project development framework
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license

Estimated Starting Salary RangeThe estimated starting salary range for this role is $150,000 - $173,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company's discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
