Responsibilities

The Lab Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for overseeing quality assurance, accreditation, and compliance activities for laboratory operations across an assigned region. This role ensures that all laboratory testing services are performed in accordance with company quality standards, accreditation requirements, and project specifications. The Lab Quality Assurance Manager supports lab performance, staff competency, and continuous improvement efforts while maintaining a positive customer service attitude and demonstrating ECS Core Values.

Responsibilities
  • Oversees quality assurance activities across soils, concrete, and asphalt laboratories
  • Ensures compliance with company Quality Manual and Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Coordinates and oversees laboratory accreditation events and proficiency programs
  • Maintains calibration schedules and records for laboratory equipment
  • Oversees equipment maintenance and ensures testing accuracy and reliability
  • Reviews laboratory test results and reports prior to release
  • Evaluates laboratory staff performance and competency
  • Supports training and development of laboratory personnel
  • Ensures laboratories are properly staffed, equipped, and operating efficiently
  • Develops and implements laboratory-specific policies and procedures as needed
  • Monitors and promotes continuous quality improvement
  • Supports Construction Services and Department Managers with lab operations
  • Participates in business development to expand laboratory capabilities
  • Performs laboratory testing as needed for training and evaluation purposes
  • Performs other quality and operational support duties as assigned

Qualifications

Responsibilities
  • 10 years of related experience
  • High school diploma or GED required
    • Associate or bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is preferred
  • Basic certifications and any advanced certifications (or PE, PG, NICET Level IV) necessary for the work performed as per the ECS Technician Certification Policy
    • If managing both the soils and concrete labs, certifications are required for both laboratories
  • If driving for or on behalf of any ECS subsidiary, a valid driver's license is required
  • Experience with laboratory accreditation programs and QA/QC systems
  • Experience supervising laboratory personnel and processes
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials testing and laboratory procedures
  • Understanding of QA/QC programs and quality management systems (QMS)
  • Knowledge of geotechnical principles and applications
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to evaluate test results and laboratory reporting for accuracy and compliance
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple locations and coordinate activities across teams
  • Ability to train and evaluate laboratory personnel

The expected pay range for this role and location is $140k - $150k/year. The final agreed-upon compensation will be determined based on specific location and other individual qualifications.
